A 2000 Year Old Silver Coin.

in #steemsilvergold8 years ago

Have a look at this baby, it was given to me about 10 years ago as a present from my father-in-law. I'm not sure of it's origin but he told me it's a 2000 year old Roman coin, but it could also be a ancient Greek coin. Are there any numismatic experts on steemit who can shed some light on this awesome coin.

I hope you enjoyed my post and thanks for the visit, cheers.

Outstanding @silverbug, now this is from the original silver stackers to fight their thieving leaders, great coin thanks for sharing it with us, :o)

Yeah you can tell the government weren't the only ones clipping the coins, cheers mate.

Wow that's amazing 2000 years old, just imaging how many hands that coins been in, that's mind blowing thanks for sharing that @silverbug.

I agree there is just a few generations have owned this coin for sure, cheers.

It does not look Roman.

It's not Roman, did you see the pictures in the comments, it is Greek from around 300 BC, cheers mate.

Interesting how the stamp was off-center. Shows you how hand stamping makes each coin unique. Since used for barter, even a chunk could be cut off in exchange for a good or service. Real use of silver in the marketplace.

This is true, but I think it is also off center because people have been clipping the coin through millennia, cheers mate.

It looks like a mix of these 2 coins. They are both from the 300 BC range.

It is very similar that's for sure, so going by your info it must be a Greek coin. I did a bit of serching and found another that is pretty close, have a look at this one, it even has the dotted line around the coin.

Thanks for the info, at least I know for a fact it is about 2000 years old and Greek, cheers mate.

I'd say that's the one. Such a cool piece of history. Happy you figured it out.

I don't think it's the one but it's very close, if you look at the lettering it's different letters, cheers.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
