# 61 - Celebrating Canada's 150th

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago (edited)

From colorful flora to iconic fauna and landmarks, breathtaking images of Canada's landscapes reflect the diversity of the Canadian experience.

That was the idea behind the 2017 RCM series called "Celebrating Canada's 150th".

This collaborative series between the Royal Canadian Mint and Canadian Geographic magazine features striking designs based on unforgettable photographs from the bi-monthly publication. Each coin is presented in the order of each of Canada’s province or territory’s entry into Confederation.

The series has twelve $10 silver coins. Each weights 15.87g with 99.99% silver purity and Colored Matte Proof finish. The mintage was 25,000 each coin. The issue price was CAD$44.95.

This is the second of the series and is called "Kayaking on the River". Based on a photograph by Canadian nature photographer Daniel Dagenais, the reverse offers a first-person perspective of a kayak excursion on a river in Quebec.

The fourth coin of the series is the "Great Blue Heron". Based on a photograph by Canadian photographer Claude Belanger, the reverse captures an idyllic scene along the water’s edge in New Brunswick. The application of colour over the detailed engraving recreates the life-like qualities of the original photograph, in which a great blue heron (Ardea herodias) stands in the shallow water.

The fifth coin of the series is the "Canola Field". Based on a photograph captured by Canadian photographer John Sylvester, the reverse features vibrant colour over the engraved image of an agricultural setting in rural Manitoba. In the foreground, the brilliant yellow fields of canola naturally draw the eye to the gently rolling landscape, where grain bins can be seen in the far-off distance.

Great coloring! Love those coins - my stack is looking monochrome in comparison!

RCM issues some coloured coins but the prices are not funny. Thanks for visiting.

Great coins man.
I have a slight question - you said that each coin is less than 1 oz. Usually it is around 1oz mark, so is this like a standard mark weight from this particular mint?

Bullion coins/rounds usually come weighting 1oz, but these are not bullion coins. They have numismatic value and the RCM(Royal Canadian Mint) sold them at CAN$44.95. That is over 300% the silver spot price...

I see. The price did have me stopping for a moment :-)

Cool colorized pieces, that sky piece is really nice.

This series is all colorized and it has some very beautiful coins. I intend to complete it, if I find reasonable prices on Ebay.

The are beautiful. Stamps are usually my thing but I can get behind this silver! Do you know if they are still available for sale in Canada? Thanks for sharing these!

Yes, coin dealers and on Ebay. I don't know if RCM has them to sell, but their prices are well above what you find on Ebay or coin dealers.

Thanks for the info!!
