# 28 - Iconic Places - Part 2

Continuing our series of Iconic Places in America, we will show four more places that the US Mint paid homage in its Modern Commemorative series.

All coins are $1, 90% silver and weight 26.73g.

We will start with the 1996 "Smithsonian 150th Anniversary", issued to commemorate the establishment of the Smithsonian Institution by Congress on August 10, 1846. The obverse depicts the “Castle” building located on the Mall in Washington, D.C. This was the first Smithsonian Institution building. The reverse depicts an allegorical goddess sitting on top of a globe.

The second is the 1997 "Botanic Gardens", it was issued for the 165th anniversary of the National Botanic Garden in Washington, DC. The obverse portrays the facade of the Botanic Garden without landscaping. The reverse portrays a single rose with a garland of roses encircling the rim of the coin above.

The third is the 1999 "Yellowstone National Park", issued to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the park’s establishment by Congress in 1872. Notice that the actual anniversary occurred two years earlier. The obverse depicts one of the geysers of the park while the reverse is adapted from the seal of the Department of the Interior.

The last is the 2000 "Library of Congress", issued to celebrate its 200th anniversary. The obverse features two books, with the torch of learning appearing in the background. The reverse features the dome of the Library of Congress Jefferson Building.

Do you buy all your silver coins graded ? Or do you send them in yourself..

I buy them in the Internet already graded and I send them to a friend's home in USA or to my daughter in Canada.

Aaahh I see, the grading does it effect the price though? When it comes to those silver coins ?

Yes, grading is very important in establishing the premium. Let's take the Yellowstone above. Being a MS70, its price is around $110. If it were MS69, the price would be around $45. Many of the coins the difference between a 69 to a 70 is from 3 times to 10 times the price...
