# 215 - A Tri-Hemiobol
Today I will show you a tri-hemiobol from Selge, Pisidia.
Pisidia was a region of ancient Asia Minor, corresponding roughly to the modern-day province of Antalya in Turkey and Selge was one of its cities.
This coin was poured between 300-190 BC, weights 0.77g in silver and has a diameter of 9mm (a dime has a diameter of 17.9mm).
The obverse depicts a facing Gorgoneion (the Medusa).
The reverse depicts a helmeted head of Athena right, spear behind.

We can see snakes instead of hair. Very good!
It is a wonderful work of the celator, in such a small coin.
Wow, what a treasure!
I love these Ancient Greek coins. Thanks for the visit.
It's amazing to think how people already started using design in their currency back in those days. That's a really ancient coin afterall.
The medusa face vaguely reminds me of the R$1 brazilian coin.
Damn nice!!!
Thank you, my friend!
Thats a nice coin and it has survived in really nice condition
I find amazing the fact that they survived more than 2,000 years and some of them (not the above) look brand new, not counting the patina.
It always surprises me at how early they were making silver coins, and with a fairly decent amount of detail for the times. Its a great looking coin @ronaldoavelino!
I know about silver coins from 700BC. They were cruder than this, but you can identify all the elements on these coins. The above coin, 400-500 years later, is half the size of a dime and it was made by hand. Amazing!
