# 187 - Texas

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago (edited)

Continuing our series of the American Half Dollars Commemoratives, we will today present the 1935 "Texas".

As all the commemorative half dollars, it weights 12,5g with a 90% silver purity.

This coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of Texas independence from Mexico, in 1836. To have a greater profit, they were minted from 1934 to 1938 in several mints.

The obverse features an eagle clasping an oak branch with a large star in the background.

The reverse features the kneeling figure of winged Victory. In her right hand is a spray of laurel, while her left hand rests on a representation of the Alamo. Beneath each of Victory’s wings are portraits of the Texas heroes Sam Houston and Stephen Austin.

A total of 9,996 coins were distributed in Philadelphia this year. The actual price is around U$250.00 in this grade.

This series will continue very soon.

It reminds me of an old film "The Alamo", with John Wayne.

It was about the Texas independence against General Santa Anna.

I don't have the one above, but I do have one of the Lexington's from your other post...
IN GOD WE "TRUST" THE PLAN...

The "Texas" are easier to find than the "Lexington" due to a more than 1,000,000 overall mintage.

Oh, my!!!! It is winged Liberty!!!! I suppose you know that the original Saint Gauden's design had Lady Liberty with wings... And I love, love this obverse... the first US Winged Liberty coin I have seen. Thanks!!!!

I am happy for you. I like the whole design. It disputes with the "Oregon Trail" the title of the most beautiful early commemorative.

So now, I have added this to my most favorite commemoratives: The Oregon trail (I just love the Native American looking very strong and regal with a full headdress), the California Commemorative with the American Prospector, George Washingto on his White Stallion because he is my most favorite US president and the important character in US History, and now this Winged Lady Liberty for looking like an Angel, angels being my most favorite spiritual pure and strong creature that is for real and not a myth! Okay.... I just told you everything about me, LOL!

The fire in the museum in Brazil was in our main newsbroadcast(s) yesterday. Much is lost I guess.

All is lost. 20,000,000 pieces were inside and all were destroyed. Tragedy.
