Gold used in healthcare
I love gold, I like holding and watching it as a store of wealth.
But gold is used for many more ways. Maybe the most interesting way gold is used is in medicine and healthcare.
- Medicine for Arthritis. Slow but steady injections of sodium aurothiomalate or aurothioglucose (gold salts) are sometimes used to treat arthritis.
- Cancer treatments by radioactive gold nanoparticles which are implanted as radiation source in chemotherapy.
- Medical surgical equipment.
- In pacemakers, because of it’s nonreactive and reliability.
- In implants, because of its resistance to bacteria.
- Bone damage
- Dentistry. Used for fillings and crowns
Probably I forgot other usages, but these I regularly hear from.
The earliest medical use of pure gold is found in China around 2,500 BC for the treatment for smallpox, skin ulcers and furuncles or boils.
Enjoy!
