Great Post... Although I don't have time right now to read your entire Post, I will come back and start from scratch later on... You mentioned the first Dollars not having the amount written on them, but they actually did... They were on the Coins Edge which are written, "HUNDRED CENTS DOLLAR OR UNIT" including decorations between the words...

Interesting that they called it a "Dollar or Unit", indicating that they were not sure what to actually call the coin. A dollar, in that it's the same silver content as the Spanish Dollar, unit in that it's not a Spanish Dollar but a unit of silver, call it what you will. @ironshield
I suppose "We the People" were also very new to having our own Coinage at that time...
