Why everyone needs to buy Silver!
I strongly believe that everyone should have at least a little bit of physical silver, some people even have a lot, (like me) and that's probably a good thing too, but I'm not going to advocate for that today. I know lots of people here at #steemsilvergold would likely agree as well and there's some great reasons to also have a lot.
Just In Case
That's pretty much the reason, just in case! I'm not a hard core prepper and I don't expect the world too end or some terrible crisis to happen, but if it does I want something with intrinsic value for trade. Silver (and gold) has had value since the dawn of civilization and have been a store of value and form of currency.
I also admit this is not always a popular opinion to take, and I constantly here the counter arguments. That you just need bullets and guns and a posse, and if things break down to that level having silver really isn't going to matter, someone is going to kill you and take it, but why are they taking it? Since it obviously has value to them. And just maybe this is a good reason to just have a little bit, so your not a target for the end of the world marauders.
Maybe it's not that bad, it's not full on end of the world stuff. Things are just a little bit bad, there's some disaster or some terrible political or economic problem, that hasn't throw everything into chaos. In these times, it's common to hear of people having to sell or trade their family jewels for food or basic necessities. Of course this also goes hand in hand with prepared food, water and other disaster supplies, but why not throw a handful of silver coins in with your supplies.
I could go on a on about just how cool silver coins feel in your hand and how every one is a mini sculpture. How the price is manipulated, and suppressed. How so much is being wasted and lost in electronic waste and will never be reclaimed and how much it going to be needed in the future. I could really go on and on.
If your still with me you may be asking what to stack?
I would say maybe 5-10 oz of some sort of generic bullion bar, coin or round but these in 1 oz sizes. If you're going to use them to barter your going to want smaller amounts. In light of that your going to want some sort of fractional pieces. There some pretty cool, but gimmicky bars you can break into smaller sizes, but these carry a significant premium. You best way to get some cheap silver for this kind of thing, is get some old coins that still had silver in them. You can usually buy them for less than or at spot value of silver. For example Canadian quarters, dimes, dollars and 50 cent pieces prior to 1967 were made of 80% Silver. So if you grab maybe 100$ worth of mixed quarters and dimes, you'd have a bit of just in case fractional silver.
This is all totally my opinion, but if you want to take the "Just in case" approach I'd say add a bit of silver to your emergency supplies
I'm not going to go through every scenario or counter argument and mostly just leave the advice at that, feel free to debate as you see fit in the comments, your not going to hurt my feelings.

@phelimint

Up or down in price ,
I Always love silver
@josteem
Silver Will excess gold price before Long .. Wait and see :)
Any plans for a Phelimint "Emergency Silver Supply Pack"? A few "Silver Cards", some old coinage, and maybe a couple of Ouncers or 2 ouncers... Could be a nice little pack for new and old stackers alike!
Sure, I'll need some help from #steemedc though!
I'm sure we could come up with a great little pack!
Totally agree to all of it...I know shocking eh...I often get the silly argument of " you can't eat silver" but then I ask them what preparations to they have?? stored food?? nope. just useless dollars in a bank account. People seem to think that in order for silver to save you from something it has to be an apocalypse scenario where the whole world collapses into zombieland or something which is kinda silly on their part. Silver has been money much longer than stupid worthless paper with a random number on it.
People were using it recently in Valenzuela, this is most certainly real. Oh well, they don't have to listen.
In case of an end of society, or apocalypse like scenario; I'm thinking about "stacking" silver chains and bracelets...
I figure, I might have to travel or be on the run at some point, and carrying a bunch of loose change around might be awkward.
But, if I had dozens or so different chain's to wear, at 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz or 1/8 ounce each, they would work well as discreet small values to barter with, and I could also separate some links off for even smaller amounts, and my pockets and pouches would be free to carry other things too. However, of course, this is in addition to a good size store of bars and rounds and coins to keep, if I am lucky enough to have a stable/permanent homestead.
If SHTF, think of me of somewhere between 'Negan' and 'Mr. T.'
:-)
Your onto something man, but I think Mene beat you too it, check out @goldmatters.
Their stuff is cool, but i'm a fan of silver!
know of anybody that provides thick/sturdy chains to accommodate the silverbugs?
nice post I was going to ask what I should buy because I do like the cool coins and pours but they are higher in price than regular silver so I am going to start collecting some genaric too. thanks
Yeah, this is a little emergency stack, but I don't take my own advice and pretty much exclusivity stack fancy silver.
You’re damn right here Phil! Silver has so many industrial uses and there is such little reserves of it due to it ending up in landfills! I think we all need to think to invest in some silver!
The price has been manipulated for far too long and they will continue to do so!
Yeah, I always wonder if the manipulation will ever end.
Sometimes I wonder the same thing. I mean they have virtually unlimited funds to short it
It's not awkward to think "Just In Case" . There's many problems going on around the world and we never know whether something will cause a massive crisis in which people will be struggling to buy food / basic necessities. Gold and silver are really worth and used for a very long time and if you have some of it your chance of having what it takes is higher. It's not bad being a prepper as long as you are not going to extreme with it.
Thank you for contributing to the Steemit Community.Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to your next posts.
Thx for stopping by man. I can't believe the ppl that think stackers are just crazy preppers.
Or just do what Mr. Banker does and does not talk about. JP now owns the biggest physical silver holding by a single entity in Human History, but you won't find them raving about it. This non-raving but holding alone should be a HUGE buy signal!
Yeah, maybe they sell the price control breaking, or they'll break it when it suits them.
I couldn't agree more. Not to mention silver is just plain easier to obtain for those on a budget as well as the fact that like you say small amounts of silver will be easier to barter with than even fractional gold bullion coins. I'm lovibg this metalsmafia. Btw I'm one of those folks that actually tries to get thw preciius metala back out of electronics. I paid for my wedding with the money from refined escrap.
Oh yeah, gold's barrier to entry is just so high, but now i'm sitting on so much silver, I should consider moving some into gold.
Diversification is my middle name lol
I am in total agreement with you. In a report called "The End of Australia" - the author Vern Gowdie in his Long Bust Model portfolio listed 20% Precious Metal to guard as inflation hedge against excessive money printing. Thanks for the info.

Sounds like solid advice.
