Silver 1st Prize Trophy- Saved from Destruction! 🏆
~Rescuing a Real Historic Treasure!!
I love exploring old derelict places and last year I got permission to enter a ruined building that was about to be demolished and rebuilt. After being burnt out by fire it was abandoned for many years, so was completely overgrown with brambles and bushes, I really had to fight to gain entry. Inside was filthy all the charred remains had been scraped into a heap, and the rain from the hole in the roof had turned it all to a pile of mucky sludge!
However through the filth I could see "Shiny things poking out" that the raindrops had exposed! The magpie in me was Squawking, so I grabbed a stick from a nearby bush and got stuck in! There were loads of knives and forks, a teapot, hipflask, (all E.P.N.S or Silver-Plated.) But then I found the goodies, a half melted 925 silver Ring which I can't find at the moment, and finally this beautiful Sterling Silver Trophy! It's fully hallmarked and engraved as a Prize in the 1938 M.Y.A yachting competition ⛵
It weighs a lovely 107.1 grams and doesn't have any added 'weighting' so that's just the Silver value. I researched the engraving and found that M.Y.A stands for Mylor Yachting Association and the trophy was awarded 80 years ago! Mylor Yacht Harbour was originally the most westerly Naval Dockyard in England, then home of HMS Ganges and the Packet ships and centre for the French Resistance during the Second World War. Today it is home to the last fleet of Oyster fishing boats under sail.

Wow, that's an awesome little piece of history right there. Good find!! And for it to be in such good nic after a fire is pretty sweet too. It's amazing what you can find in some places you'd think nothing would be salvageable.
