Thoughts on the Stax Fallout
Golden greetings and silver salutations. What a difference a day (or a weekend) makes! I haven't been on Steemit much this weekend (I did attend the live chat Discord on Friday night), but reading through so many posts this morning you can see the hurt throughout the community. There are posts with varying degrees of anger towards Phil. As for me, I am still trying to figure out how I feel and what to do. My current thoughts:
I am keeping my delegation with Stax for the time being. As our chat was only a couple of days ago, I have not given up hope for an eventual reconciliation with Phil, Stax, and the rest of the group. Maybe I am too optimistic or maybe I just don't want to believe what happened, but damn it, I think there has to be an amicable solution to be found somewhere.
I think Stax should see what the initial donations were to the account and refund those ASAP. Refund any other donations that did not apply to obtaining a tier level. A for profit bot (aka NOT a community bot) should not accept donations. Also, he should compensate those who have worked for the bot as they should be considered employees (ie, Silver Stack UK and The Damus)
Phil needs to decide how he wants this to play out. I actually like that he has remained pretty quiet since Friday. There have been a lot of bad things said about him, and he has not lashed out. He has not powered down Stax and I see he actually transferred more to Stax. Perhaps this was done to allow him to start refunding while simultaneously keeping up the value of Stax vote (other then the drop in the vote value from the price of Steem dropping).
The SSG community needs to allow him to have one unconditional out. If he turns over the private keys to someone in the group (I'd suggest Ray), he should be WELL compensated for what he has done. I have no doubt that he has done a LOT of work to keep our botty up and running (as well as handling questions, comments). The botty then needs to be made a community bot with a very specific and agreed to SHTF scenario, aka what happens to the Steem if something happens and Steemit is coming to an end. It could be a reimbursement to all members, but as that may be an unbelievable undertaking, choosing a charity in the beginning and say if it all falls apart we donate final proceeds to said non-for-profit charity.
If we want a bot so bad, lets be a bot for each other! And by that I mean, use an auto-voter! If someone comments on your posts often, add them to your voter. If you love someone's content, add them to your voter! I just made sure that everyone who commented on my last post was on my auto-voter. Also, once you have a slider, you should always throw a small (or large) vote to all non-spam comments. This shows you read it.
On a happier note, we really need to utilize that Discord chat feature more often. It would be great to have random chats in there to talk about all things shiny, SSG issues, and have a virtual drink together.
Well, I am done thinking / writing for now. Until next time, keep stacking and supporting #SteemSilverGold, #SteemUSA, and #TheAlliance!
It was a very rough thing to listen to Friday night. I know that I’m fairly new to the group, but i could hear the disappointment and anguish in the voices of the veteran leaders of the group. I don’t think that Phil is going to change his mind and is just going to pay out what they are asking for. To me the steemsilvergold group is more important, i want to share and read and interact with all of you like minded people, that’s what’s important. I do agree that i think there could definetly be better support of each other’s posts. An example is my posts average 7-8 readers from a group of 180, that’s a pretty poor percentage. I ama proud member of steemsilvergold.👍
Friday was definitely tough. The SSG community was great before Stax existed and will still remain so. Sorry to hear about the low # of readers. Though not everyone who reads, leaves an upvote for you. I don't know if that is encouraging or discouraging. As for me, I have you on my upvoter as you regularly comment on my posts ☺
I went through something personally very similar to this but on a much bigger scale. Friday brought a lot of bad memories out on me. We will be strong together. Steemsilvergold one for All and one for All...i appreciate the views partner👍
Great post my friend. Once all the dust settles and the smoke is cleared. A pheonix will rise to take SSG to new heights! 👍🏼🍺🥓
Now I am thinking of Tenacious D's "Rize of the Phoenix! SSG will become better than ever!
Mike, first let say thank you for your continued support of SSG, I have gotten to know you as the "flag thrower". Which to me is not a bad thing. Second, let me state that Phil had one full week to think about How he was going to handle this and he still took the path he did. As more time passes without a response from him, just makes it that much harder for SSG to trust him. I do not believe he had SSG in mind when he made his decision. I also do not believe you will ever see any type of compensation from the staxx account. So i will end with this. You are a rock solid member and I respect your decision to keep your delegation to staxx. As a group we will get past this. Thanks again for your continued support to SSG.
Ray, thank you for the kind words. I did not think I threw that many flags...except when there is blatant plagiarism. I do not believe in second chances for plagiarism and flags are the only option.
As for Phil, I am still holding out hope that he has a change of heart. In his head, he may have thought (or still thinks) what he has said is right. I hope after he heard it live, thinks about it more, and reads all the follow up posts, he changes his stance.
Besides, even if I pull my delegation to Stax, I don't know where to move my Steem power to just yet. That doesn't mean I won't move it tomorrow or next week or next month. I'll just give it some time.
Ray, thank you for everything that you do. I consider you the leader of the SSG community.
Good points. I’m really hoping we can find a resolution. Whether it be changing Stax or creating a community bot.
Agreed that the discord chat was cool, hopefully we can do more if that in the future.
I am definitely hoping for a peaceful resolution. I want the biggest problem for SSG community members to be what coin to buy next!
Yes, totally agree!
Thank you for attending Friday night! I do believe there is something that could be done to salvage Stax, but we will have to see if something happens! Your coin is getting shipped out tomorrow! :)
I hope that Stax can be salvaged somehow. I cannot wait to receive a Steem round!
Dumb question - I am pretty new to all this still, especially discord. Is there a SteemSilverGold discord group?
Yep, check my post from thursday, there's an invite link near the top of the post. It is just 2 click's away
As a new member of steemsilvergold I cannot pretend to understand all that happened last Friday, because I didn't know what was the original deal about Stax. To me, the more important thing is to keep steemsilvergold community. So I applaud several of your ideas that try to keep the peace and to let @phelimint do what was proposed by him. Let's simply wait a little and see what happens.
Nice post and thank you for sharing your thoughts.
👏🏻. 👏🏻. 👏🏻. 💯
"slow clap"
Well said man. I hope this gets better quickly. Also thank you for always being an awesome supporter/ally!
The thank you goes in both directions. You have given me plenty of votes and comments. Hopefully this situation gets resolved soon and the healing can begin.
Nice to see someone who can react rationally and not like a child resorting to childish name calling. I was disgusted at some of the SHIT I saw in SSG this weekend and am pondering leaving the group of grown ass men (and a few ladies) if some continue to post divisive and derogatory BULLSHIT that’s destructive to the community. I’m not gonna mention any names. You know who you are.
Now that that little rant is out of my system, I gave you (the author) a 100% up on this post bc I’m happy to see someone posing solutions and not just whining, name calling, etc.
Nicely done.
As for stax I’d like to see something happen that everyone can agree to so we don’t have to take a burn it to the ground approach to something that’s already functional, established, and benefited so many over the past months. I can see the rationale from both sides of this disagreement and I understand people are upset but for the love of God a week ago we were all United and supportive of each other and now people are bashing Phil likes he’s the devil himself which I really don’t care to see. Give him a break. He’s in a bad enough place after all the shit that got slung at him over the weekend from people he thought were his friends and is facing possible defacto banishment from the group. He put a lot of work into stax as have others and has tried his best in the past to right so many perceived wrongs.
I’m not against anyone in the group. Still. I believe in second chances and moving forward UNITED. But I will not be a part of a community that is so quick to burn something to the ground and turn on someone at a moments notice over some disagreement. That’s how divides start. That’s how flag wars are initiated. That’s how we do to ssg the same thing that one powerful steemit account is doing to the platform as a whole right now (and I won’t even mention him by name for fear of retribution that I, a small dolphin in the steem community, not many orcas or even whales could put up a fight against).
We are better than this. So in closing, I know there are some strong emotions out there still but please please stop with all the negativity. It will only drag ALL of us down in the end. And for the love of God give Phil a break. Those of you that lashed out at him in the last couple of days have dished out enough and it’s time for it to stop.
I know this won’t get resolved quickly or easily but let’s try and take it down a notch with the rhetoric and start having meaningful conversations and proposals like this one.
