Daily Coin # 58 A Very Different Commemorative Coin From Poland

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago

What we have for today's coin is a 1974 Polish Commemorative silver coin . The Polish People's Republic (Polish: Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa, PRL) was the official name of Poland until 1989 according to Constitution of 1952 based originally on the Soviet blueprint. Until 1952, the name of the Polish state according to a temporary Constitution of 1947 issued by the communists was simply Rzeczpospolita Polska (the Republic of Poland). At the time of its founding during final stages of World War II, the new Soviet-controlled Poland was regarded as a puppet entity set up from outside the State concerned, and over time, it developed into a satellite state of the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union had much influence over both internal and foreign affairs, and Red Army forces were stationed in Poland (1945: 500,000; until 1955: 120,000 to 150,000; until 1989: 40,000).[3] In 1945, Soviet generals and advisors formed 80% of the officer cadre of the Polish Armed Forces. The Polish United Workers' Party became the dominant political party, officially making the country a Communist state. An interesting fact about this coin is in 1974 each working citizen of People's Republic of Poland received this coin together with their salary. This coin is made from .625 % silver, weighs 14.5 grams, is 31 mm in diameter, and is 2 mm thick.
The obverse features The White Eagle of Poland, Coat of Arms inside a square frame, face value 200 ZŁ (ZŁOTYCH)at the bottom. Along the top edge: POLSKA • RZECZPOSPOLITA • LUDOWA • 1974 (People's Republic of Poland 1974)

The reverse show a contour map of Poland, in its centre concave square with lettering in three lines: XXX / LAT / PRL (30 years of People's Republic of Poland)

The only thing that could have given this coin more eye appeal would have been edge lettering , but alas it is reeded .

It is interesting to notice that, if each worker received one of these coins, its mintage should be millions. Weighting 9g of pure silver, the Government spent a lot of money to issue this coin. In 1974 no country minted circulating silver coins.

Yes the mintage was well over 13 million and this is a commemorative !!!!! Thanks for looking in Ronaldo !

Wow, another beauty bro! 👍
