Silver Coins from Around the World - Part 2
Continuing my exploration of silver coins I obtained at my local shop for generic silver price, based on Actual Silver Weight.
I'm going to start with the coin that really caught my eye. The figure on the obverse is striking; stoic looking. And the coin itself is fairly heavy. Almost a half an ounce of silver in there. Can you see the mistake in this picture?
It says Sweden, but this coin is actually from Switzerland. It's a 5 Franc piece from 1954.
I also picked up an 1889 10 cent piece from the Netherlands.
It's pretty washed out. There's a lot of detail missing from the profile. For example, this guy is supposed to have a beard.
The back side Is in better shape, but it's still pretty rubbed down.

Very nice coins. I see all kinds of foreign coins but never know if they have silver. Most of them are at antique stores and don't have much info.
The NGC site is a good one to bring up when you're browsing. They've got the ASW and the melt value listed, if applicable. They've also got a grid of prices for different years in different grades, but those are of course subjective. Here's the site for the Swiss 5 Franc coin, as an example. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/switzerland-5-francs-km-40-1931-1969-cuid-1113326-duid-1533572
It is confusing so many European countries and changing names all the time.
Yeah, it's true. But with Europe, usually googling the words on a coin gets me pretty close. But Asian and middle Eastern coins are tougher.
Nice to find silver coins. I have a few modern ones put out by the Perth mint. Some 2oz koalas and a year of the rabbit 1 kilo from 2011. I bought them as an investment but the silver price has dropped a lot since I bought them, so just hanging onto them. I also have some silver florins, lost in my many boxes of junk! You have inspired me to look for them
Old silver florins are very nice coins. If you find them, you should post up some pics.
Yeh I’ll look after Christmas when I get a free weekend. Sorry for the typos in above comment fixed them up now was a bit tired when I was last on my device
