Mennica Polska: Red Ruffed Lemur

Don't worry, I will be posting more about my trip to Banff and the places we visited but I have to wait until @silvergingerman sends me some of the waterfall videos I would like to include in my post, in the meantime I would like to continue showcasing the well crafted coins from the endangered species from Mennika Polska (Mint of Poland). I'm well overdo for a stackitis fix and to check in with the cute Stackitis Nurse 😍 , time for some coin silverporn again!

Last year, my LCS was selling part of his collection and I must say he has/had (now mine) some beautiful coins I don't have all the set, I think I'm missing 2 or 3 of them as they were already sold but I will do my best to start rolling out this collection and it's colorful packaging. Issued by Mennica Polska/the Mint of Poland for the small pacific Island of Niue, this collection features endangered animal species.

Released in 2014, this proof finished coin has a 2 014 mintage in 17.5 grams of 999 fine silver with a swarovski element and color printed. The coin comes in a beautifully crafted box and case including an equally colorful certificate of authenticity. Overall, I was impressed with the whole package, not just the coin. Naturally when I walked into my LCS and saw this collection in the front showcase I knew I had to add it to my collection, who knows when I may come across this again. Not often I come across coins from Mennica Polska but seems like it was the theme of last year for me, it surely was a refreshing change from our own Canadian mint. I have been trying to stay away from premium coins and go for the more generic bang for my buck kinda stackibles, that obviously was a fail on my part but I'm still happy to add coins from different countries to my collection. I guess I will have to try harder this year! Need more willpower!

Just like the last coin, I'm thrilled with the packaging and I probably like the colorful box more then the coin, don't worry I'm totally into the coin too!

Of course, this coin also comes with a nice backstory on it's equally beautiful COA.

The largest lemur of the Lemuridae family which was considered as a subspecies of the Lemur wari. Recent research on the family this ruffed strain of the Lemuridae as an autonomous taxonomic unit.

The Ruffed Lemur inhabits rain forests in the eastern region of Madagascar. They live in small groups of 3 to 5.

Lemurs are pobably the only primates which create structures resembling a bird's nest. A femaleshortly before giving birth builds a nest in the branches of trees cushioning it with her own hair. Lemurs usually give birth to 2-3 offsprings. Adults can reach up to 60 cm in length, their tail can grow just as long. Females are typically larger than the males.

The main threat to the Lemur population is meat hunting and capture to be sold as pets.
