“It's well knoon they ur friendly wimins," Cockpit Officer Fisky agreed, “But ye might come back light oan th' coppers an' heavy oan th' tossel scagg!"

Hemanwithnoname wrinkled his brow in discomfort as he pondered the thought…”Is thaur naethin' free in thes warld?!"
“Hee! Hee! Hee! Naethin’ but water and fresh air mate!” Fisky said with a laugh.

[In the open sea, just west of Monrovia, Liberia…]

Two heavily armed longboats headed swiftly for the mouth of river Mesurado of Monrovia. At the rudder of the first, Commander Galligan Blair with Warrant Officers Ickied, Yprecious, Bock, Onaldoavelino, Enstless and bnfl4sun.

The second boat was led by Lieutenant Andofzara with Acting Lieutenant Errislravenhill, Warrant Officers Ixiesilverminer, Wingsworld, Veningart and At-elvis. It was muskets and swords throughout as the two boats finally entered the river delta.

The first thing to be seen was the palace high up on the southern shore of the river, smoke billowing out of it’s windows and archways. Next was the distinctive “boom, boom!” of musketfire to the south-east!

“Keep yer heads doon men! Heed fur th' soothern shair under th' cover of th' trees!" Galligan’s voice rang out.

Though the gunfire was steady, none of it directed at them and there was some relief at that but the hearts of all crewman were pounding heavily.

“When Ahh was jist a wee Lass, Ahh couldnae help explorin' places ‘att says, ‘Donae enter!’" Errislravenhill remarked to Ixiesilverminer.
“Aye, but did ye have ta enter this place?!!” Ixiesilverminer pointed out with apprehension.

Suddenly two musket blasts sounded toward their direction and the starboard gunwhale shattered between Ickied and Yprecious, spraying splinters through the middle section of Galligan’s longboat!

“Pull fur shore! Pull Men!” Galligan yelled as he ducked his head down even lower.

Obviously they had been spotted and there was no welcoming party! Up on the rise over the river, six fast horses ran down the narrow road heading east away from the palace. Before all of them could make the ben however, a cannon blast hit the road amoungst them and two of the horses and their riders were catapulted off of the road and down into the floodplain along the river!

“Poor horses, were they hurt?!” Andofzara said absently as he steered his boat directly into the brushy shore.
