“Och aye! They’ve seen us alright! She's jist lit oot 'er forward jibs in a run tae shake us aff afair we fire oan 'er!" He said as he lowered his scope and slapped it shut, “’Att ain’t gonna happen! Open Gin doors open on the starboard side!”
“Aye Sairr!” Galligan said as he shouted down to the main deck, “Gin doors open oan th' starboard side!"

[On the French Frigate Vaillante, North Atlantic…]

French Captain Philippe Bouchard yelled back up to his look-out, “Pierre! Quelle est sa taille et sous quel pavillon navigue-t-elle?!" (How big is she and under what flag is she flying?!)

“Frigate Sir!! Thirty-six guns! Scottish Navy!!”

“Thirty-six guns?! What the fock is a Scottish warship doing way out here?” The Captain cursed as he turned to his first mate, “Jean, bring her west five degrees, all forward jibs out! We’ve got to out-run these highland rogues before they spot us!”
“Yes Sir!” First Mate Jean Montbars replied as he ran down to the main deck and began shouting out the orders for full sail cloth and a direct run to the west!

All eighteen of the French sailors were up on deck now as they furiously set the rigging for full sail cloth and the small ship swung due west in a rolling wake of fresh cut water!

Back on the bridge, the first mate re-took the ship’s wheel while the Captain stood looking back to the south-east with his scope. In the grey of the late day light he could make out all three masts of the Scottish warship…

“There hasn’t been a Scottish warship in these waters in years! Something is in the making…” He said, half to himself and half to his first mate.
“We’ve sold all our furs in Iceland for a fine profit. Maybe we can out run them!” Jean said as he glanced over his shoulder in the direction of the menacing visitor.

“With eighteen thousand ounces of silver in our hold and many tons of fresh fish?! Not likely. Our best chance is to slip away quickly before they set their eyes on us!” Captain Bouchard said with a worried expression on his face.

Just then, the look-out called out from above, ” Sir! The Scottish warship has just let out all her sail cloth and is changing course to west-north-west!”

“Bâtard aux yeux d'aigle!" (Eagle-eyed bastard !) He yelled in anger.

“Do you think they have spotted us?!” Jean asked anxiously as his grip on the big wheel tightened.
“Don’t be a fool mate! Of course they’ve spotted us! They’re probably standing a good twenty feet higher in the water than we are and now he’s changing his course to intercept us!” The Captain blasted as he turned and yelled down to the main deck, ”Get the eight pounders on the stern portside primed and wicked! Battle stations! Battle Stations! Don’t ring that focking bell!!!”
“Aye, aye!” Aye sir!” The men yelled out as they scurried into battle stations position and manned their port side guns.

“There’s a heavy fog a mile and a half west! We need to run for that!” The Captain said as he watched the foreign frigate far off on the sea, “If we came beat him there, we might be able to lose him in the thick of it! But right now we need to get a messenger bird to Fort Havre à l'Anglois in Nova Scotia!”
“Aye Sir!” Jean replied as he called down to the main deck, “Where’s a good boy?! Get the Captain a messenger pigeon up on the bridge in a hurry!”

The commotion on the small ship only grew as men scurried here and there, preparing the sails for maximum speed. The Captain stood steady on the swaying bridge with his long scope set to the south-east. Suddenly his face went pale as his scope was lit-up yellow and orange!

“Fock! Hit the deck! All men down! Down!” He yelled in a panic!
