“Ahh am Commander Galligan, ay th' Scottish Frigate- Silverton…”
“Silverton?! Under the Command of Joshua Slane?!” The war Lord said, jumping to his feet!
“One an' th' same…”
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
[On-board the Silverton…Captain’s cabin…]
Warrant Officer- Surgeon Ickied sat attentively in front of the Captain in the ‘Great Cabin’. What had transpired had taken a lot out of everyone, but especially the Captain who was still recovering from his wounds.
Outside the door, Seaman- Quarter Gunner Ergino and Seaman- Carpenter's Crew Andofzara stood waiting for their Commander…
“If Ahh might ask Sairrr, whit was it an' whaur coods it hav come froms?!" Ickied ask cautiously.
“Her nam is Oshun an' she’s an elemental spirit, created by th' will an' th' the wickedness ay mony masters! Voodoo priests an' others..." The Captain said as he lit his pipe and stoked it hot.
“A talkin' doll?"
“Mair than a doll mucker, a livin' spirit who attaches herself tae anyain unattentiff enaw tae be caught in her speel. Och she's got a powerful veil ay loove an' romance tae cast mucker, e'en sexual! A radge thing!"
“Yoo've seen 'er afair?"
“Aye, in 1691...Ahh was Commander 'en, sailin under Keptin Stoic..."
"We anchored aff ay Bereeda, Somaliar an' went ashair tae buy caller fesh an' tobacco. Thee days oot at brine, we hud wee jimmies jumpin' aff th' ship an' findin' their end in th' deep! We lost eight crewman afair th' Keptin got tae th' bottom ay it!”
“Hoo did he know whit tae dae?" Ickied asked curiously.
“We hud a Somaliar staw-awa' oan board. He was beside himself wi' fear when he foond oot Oshun was oan th' ship!"
"He gav Stoic whit wee advice he knew oan hoo tae subdue th' spirit!" The Captain continued as he sat back and exhaled a large blue cloud of smoke in the shape of a doll.
“Salt an’ white cloth?”
“Aye. It blinds th' spirit an' leaves it powerless while in its midst."
“Diz it kill it?"
“Kill it?! Apparently nae mucker!"
“Och, aye, of coorse Sairrr...” Ickied replied in deep thought, "An' hoo dae ye suppose it got oan th' Silverton?"
"Darsah Islain! Ahh shoods hav thooght ay it afair. She must hav washed up oan Darsah years ago..."
Outside, Ergino and Andofzara stood wide-eyed in amazement of what they had just over-heard…
[In the dark room…village of Sherubrub…]
“Captain Joshua Slane... Ha-ha! Now I know why you here!” The War Lord Ghazi laughed, “You’re goin’ to war!”
Commander Galligan straightened slightly as he looked at the man. Apparently the Captain and this War Lord had crossed ways in the past…
“Ahh’m nae empowered tae discuss th' intent ay th' Keptin… but Ah am haur tae trade coppers fur powder..." Galligan said as he motioned to Seaman- Quarter Gunner Tokjockey and Seaman- Able Seaman Luesniper.
The two seaman set their heavy chests down on the floor and opened them. The glint of the coppers filled the eyes of all in the room.
“Powder, yes, we have powder. The mines of Socotra are rich in material for th’ makin' of powder. An important commodity here…”
Suddenly, off to the side of the room, the long curtain was pulled back slightly, and the silhouette of a beautiful young woman reflected in the candlelight. Galligan turned and gazed at the on-looker, her piercing green eyes catching his gaze. Why were those eyes so familiar? So green?
Ghazi beckoned the young woman to enter the room, and she quickly made her way to his side. She glanced at Galligan with desire in her eyes…
“This is…Bashi, my granddaughter…” Ghazi explained.
The young woman smiled, showing pearly-white teeth and uncommon dimples. She then leaned over and whispered into Ghazi’s ear. He nodded and motioned for her to leave.
With the sleek and graceful movements of a cat, the young woman walked slowly out of the room, her hips swaying slightly with each step. She glanced back at Galligan one last time before disappearing behind the curtain.
“Blye me! Ahh think Ahh’m in loove!" Luesniper whispered softly to Tokjockey as he watched her pass by.
The War Lord straightened as he looked up at Galligan…
“We will trade powder for coppers…on one condition…”
“One condition?” Galligan replied, tilting his head to the side.
“Yes. You see…we have a bound population here in Socotra...”
“Ahh’m nae sure Ahh fully undrestain’ ye Sairrr...?" Galligan replied in confusion.
Ghazi leaned forward and lowered his voice, “My granddaughter…she needs you to share her bed...”
Galligan’s face froze and his mind spun in circles!
