Louisiana Paves Way for Gold and Silver Transactions
Here's some good news coming out of Louisiana. The state will no longer collect sales tax on transactions involving gold and silver. This is a great development to removing one of the obstacles to its return to circulation. At a minimum, it will help local coin dealers and pawn shops compete with excellent online retailers like APMEX (my personal favorite).
I don't expect to see convenience stores in LA taking gold and silver anytime soon, but it does change the economics of holding them.
Gold and silver are still crazily under-valued which is why they are hoarded versus circulating. The road back to that state is likely blocked permanently except in the most extreme forms of societal breakdown. And, frankly, I'm not interested in planning for those scenarios.
It is great for the state of Louisiana to remove this unnecessary barrier from gold and silver which then allows holders to raise cash quickly and locally without having to take an automatic 7% penalty. Expect the flow through the markets there to improve marginally.

Nebraska removed the sales tax on Gold & Silver a couple years ago. State sales tax is 5.5% and cities can add up to 2% on it.
I'd forgotten about that. I know you can pay your debts to the gov'ts of Idaho and, I think, Oklahoma in specie now as well.
