I totally agree about the silver coins. If its just about the metal, it doesn't matter whats printed on it or what year it is - as long as the price is right.
I told you before, that we in Germany have to pay VAT on silver, but a reduced rate if its a real currency coin like a maple leaf or a eagle or so. For bars or fantasy rounds, or anything else made of silver, its the full 19%.
So if the comex price for silver is lets say 17€, you pay about 19€ for a cheap investment coin, like a maple leaf or a kangaroo. For a non currency round you have to pay about 23€ - and if you sell, you get the same money for either one.
Thats why I dont have any non currency coins, and also no collectors coins. By coincidence I got a 1984 silver eagle, which is a bit higher in price among collectors I heard, but not that much, may be 40€ or so.
Collectibles are always a bit of a gamble, no matter what it is. There are kind of fashion waves among them, so you never know where prices may be in some years. And in crisis times its even harder to find a buyer who is willing and able to pay a high price still.
Like in the years right after WW2, times were really rough in Germany. People from the cities travelled to the country side and swapped old oil paintings, antique furniture and persian carpets for a few potatos or a piece of ham. With some gold or silver they had much better deals. Or cigarettes - they were also highly valued.
Most states here just started taxing gold and silver purchases the past year. Eagles and a couple random
