My New Gothic Crown & Florin, Adding More Variety to my Collection

in #steemsilvergold7 years ago

I have just bought a 1847 Gothic Crown, I class this as one of my best buys, here is some information on the coin, duly rewritten for the occasion please see the picture of this great coin. I also bought a Gothic 1849 Florin

Amid the mid nineteenth century there was a restoration of the Gothic style; a style which the Victorians adored. The Gothic style was reminiscent of gallantry and sentiment of the medieval age. It affected each part of Victorian life; from engineering, writing, furniture, apparel and coinage. From the adjustment in their pockets to the structures in the towns and urban areas, the Gothic outline encompassed the Victorians.

1847 Gothic Crown

The superb Gothic representation was made by Royal Mint boss etcher, William Wyon. Presented in 1847 on the silver crown, this great medieval style picture of Queen Victoria typifies the offbeat magnificence of the by-gone medieval time. The Gothic Crown was conceived.

Confronting left, the youthful Queen Victoria is demonstrated wearing an elaborate crown, her hair is approximately interlaced with a long plait uncovering the ear and tucked into the back of her crown. The crown's tip slices through outskirt of little trefoil and bends. This was the first run through since the coinage of Charles II that a ruler had been highlighted wearing a crown on British coinage.

Victoria wears a luxuriously weaved dress highlighting roses, thorns and shamrocks, the national plant images of England, Scotland and Ireland.

The engraving around the coin is in a medieval gothic style text style in upper and lower case which was most irregular for the time.

The Gothic Crown was issued in 1847 and in 1853.

1847 Gothic Crown

The 1847 proof issues can accomplish costs in overabundance of £20,000. The silver confirmation with the SEPTIMO engraved edge and the gold verification with a plain edge are thought to be the most noteworthy irregularity. The flowed crown shifts in cost by the measure of wear, this coin has UNDECIMO engraved on the edge. This coin could accomplish between £400 to £6,250 contingent upon the condition.

1853 Gothic Crown

Two varieties of the 1853 proof crowns exist, one with a SEPTIMO recorded edge and one with a plain edge, in FDC grades these coins could bring £30,000 and £40,000 separately.

Gothic Crowns – Issued in 1847 and 1853, the confirmation coins can accomplish costs which go from £8,000, be that as it may you can discover the circled 1847 Gothic Crown with Undecimo on the edge from £800 to £30,000

shalinoth came second on the first responses behind madstacks and i was the top responder :)

I now wonder how the most responder is being counted. Unique comments in the britcoin Replies Tab, or follow-up replies to other comments too? I only noticed recently that Steemit doesn't show those nested replies to comments in the Replies Tab. D'oh! I was just counting the Replies Tab, haha. https://steemit.com/@britcoin/recent-replies (I thought I won by that count. But in saying that I know I couldn't & shouldn't win two in this, if there is indeed a 2nd place First Responder prize :D ) ~ Best of luck!

Lovely write-up on a lovely coin design.
It's right up there with the Waterloo design.

I look forwards to seeing them in a video!
