Welcome to SteemQuest a RPG board game

[New Players]
SteemQuest is an ongoing and growing RPG world here on Steem. New players are always welcome. Players can come and go as they desire, just let us know when you are leaving (say you are taking an IRL 2 week vacation) we will make sure your character is somewhere safe until you return (or Thunk may just cover you with leaves on the side of the road)

If you are New and want to join just reply to any active post with a character. I will create you a character card and add you in.

Our Story:

As the party engages with the skeleton horde, the 2 remaining knights see this and look at each other.

As their eyes meet they nod their heads and slowly turn back to face the monster. Bruised and bloody they grip their swords with both hands and raise them up to shoulder level. With a mighty roar they run full speed at the monster. Their roar changes to a cry of

“Not today demon!”

As they leap at the monster they cross their swords in the air. Their is a blinding flash of light and both knights and the demon are gone.

Anyone in the party that had attended a wizard school would know this appears to be a banishment spell. It is talked about but never taught to anyone as one of the components is a living being that is consumed during the casting.
In school you were told the knowledge to cast it was lost.

The Skeletons tons close with the party.

A hit is when you roll your attack value or LESS. For most of us, that would be 10 or less. For Quaid it is 13 or less. For Thunk it is 11 or less.

Nevermind your mace’s do 1 heart damage. You killed the skeleton and have 2 actions left.

Dropbox will not let me preview the character cards any more. Seems Dropbox is more restrictive than Google Drive. Is there a reason why Dropbox is preferable to Google Drive?

Thanks. I kept a tab open with all the cards on it so I can refer back at any time. The link you gave me seems to be working as a good replacement for the old tab.

What happens to characters if they are killed? I feel like I'm playing in a vacuum, just going through the motions to discover what will actually happen. It is all a great mystery and we have no idea what is the best action to take because we have no idea of the consequences of our actions or inactions. What constitutes a quest? We need to complete 5 quests for the Lord, but no quest was ever specified. Was the bar basement a quest? Is this a 2nd quest? Is everything we have done so far just a preliminary to discovering what our real first quest will be?

Great question.
A quest is a mission assigned by your lord.
You were going to encounter an NPC that would assign this quest to you. Our story did not take that path.
It’s ok.
Think of it like this, you solve this and you will be greatly rewarded.

I’m not sure about the killed part yet, not planning on anyone get killed.

As far as in a vacuum it may help if you interact with the party more. As far as going through motions to discover what will happen is a big part of RPG’s.
There is no straight line to the gameplay. It is a co-op storytelling adventure.

Talk with your party during this turn. I am sure they have valuable input on this.

OOC : Ah, I've just realised, I'd done it a little bit wrong. My axe does 1 heart worth of damage, but I forgot these guys had tattered armour.

Can I adjust my turn to:

  • Attack skelly closest to ET.
  • Attack skelly closest to ET.
  • Move one square north.
  • Attack skelly standing over dead knight @rolld20

OOC : How does armour work? Is my armour gone from this fight because the first skeleton busted it... or does it effectively regenerate for each new engagement?

Yes you kill the skeleton next to you.
I would suggest moving one square west so you are closer to grouping and the skeleton needs to spend more actions closing with you and has less actions for attack

Not good. I save my last action. I should have 4 skeleton attacks at me when it's their turn. IF the first two attacks hit, then I will cast HEAL on myself with my last action.
Quaid: "Happy! If you're not standing on the far side of a dwarf in the next minute (turn) you are going to be dead!"

**WHOOPS: Ok, putting 3 d20 rolls in the same line did something weird. In my browser I never saw that "3" result, I thought I just missed twice. Is it ok if we just ignore that one and say I missed twice (otherwise I don't have that last action point to save my bacon...)

I just read the rules again and it is -3 penalty to run then attack, so i'll reverse that action by attacking and then running!

I am going to have Zarvagos cast a fireball and move 2 squares toward Omar & Thunk.

Any thoughts on which skeletons you want me to target.

I would just have him move and wait on the fireball. As they converge on us they all get closer to each other. try to get 3 or 4 with a shot.

Sounds good. 2 misses. 1 move and 1 heal after the skeleton attacks.

Yup... I plan to run toward the crypt as soon as I can move again, then let loose a fireball.

Thunk’s military training kicks in. “HEALERS AND BOWMEN TO ME! I’ll boost you atop this crypt so they can’t poke you and you can see them better”

Since I'm now useless, can I cover myself with leaves and rest to recover? Or perhaps run back to the safety of the bar? I can't throw anything farther than half a space and can't wield a sword because I'm too weak and I have no mana left. If I just stand here, someone will attack me for sure, so game-master, please do something with my character so that I can jump back into the fight again once I get my mana back. Thanks.

Your best bet is to use
[New Rule]
Mana restore - calling on the magic of the world from any nearby ley lines, an adventurer can spend 4 actions to recover 2D6 -2 mana as long as they are not interrupted.

So use all 4 actions this turn doing this . Roll 2D6 and we will see how much mana you will have for next turn.
You can also coordinate with the team this round so you guys can develop a plan on where to group up and fight at.

Zarvagos and myself have no fighting ability with just 1 strength, so if you guys can gather around us and shield us, we can recover and help in a few minutes (next round). I'm calling on the magic of the ley lines to recharge my mana. @rolltwodice, please be nice to me.

You blow on two 6-sided dice, and throw:

First die lands...
You rolled a 2.

Second die lands...
You rolled a 4.

6 mana; good for 1.5 turns.

Or 3 turns of fireballs and a little bit of movement each turn to group.

Zarvagos has full mana. So if he plays this turn he can drop some fireballs.

That's right, he asked about them but didn't use them!

This is the part of RPG that you learn your abilities, how the game works and how to work as a team. Every group is going to be different. @simplegame is allowing the party to create the adventure as we go. Since this is Alpha the character, item and abilities are literally being created and adjusted on the fly.

Try being creative and see if it is allowed. For example, what happens when we splash Holy Water on these skeletons? What if he tosses it into the air and an arrow hits it splashing it over a larger area? Either @simplegame will allow it and describe the result or he will not. Sometimes you do things and the result is “nothing happens”.

Interact, talk in character, try something new...have fun. That’s what makes RPG fun. It’s real people as opposed to a computer game with predetermined outcomes. The map is wide open.

Remember when ET wanted an axe and there wasn’t an item card? He simply decided he saw one and swapped out his mace. Same attack powers, simply flavor for his character. There are dead skeletons on the field. I bet if you look that guy over there has a dagger tucked into his belt. Even your skinny arms can wield that thing 😉

That's all great information. Thank-you. This is all new to me. Obviously it will be a bit of a learning curve. Hopefully when I level up I will be able to wield a decent weapon.

So while I'm standing here collecting my ley line magic, can I also... um nevermind... I just remembered reading that picking up objects and searching all take actions, so I can't do anything but talk this turn.

Talking is just as good. Don’t get frustrated. I am checking posts regularly throughout the day. Thunk will answer. But remember the characters. Thunk is not very bright, but has military training.

Good job everyone! With the soldiers having taken care of the cloudy demon we only need to deal with this hoard of un-dead. Anyone have any ideas about how best to deal with all of these? We are outnumbered almost 3 to 1. For being just a bag of bones, they sure do pack a bit of a punch!

Thunk says, “Get your Happy Butt over here and climb up onto this crypt. You can rest here safely and get ready to toss some fire into these bones as they group up”

Unfortunately, movement takes actions. I need all 4 to recover!

Aye lil lass... it looks like these undead drongos managed to divide us up... we'll have to try and move closer to each other to fight as a team.. My fault... I saw that big beastie and lost me temper... hahaha, but we scared him, hahaha!

Oh yea, we scared him alright! Scared myself too! Almost messed my undies when I saw my fireball do absolutely nothing! But then, the thought of smelly undies would send even the most fierce monster into hiding! Hah hah hah! Then again, perhaps it was my yelling out to show it the key that scared it off? Do ya think that key would have some magic power over it? Ya never really know with such things...

Aye... in me 180 years I've learnt one thing for sure... if a rune-y spooky object glows... it's chock full of magic!

Hey Thunk! Do you really think running over to the crypt and climbing up will help? My mana has almost re-generated and I'll be able to fire off another fireball if I don't use up all my energy running.
