Saturday night whisky review #4: YAMAZAKURA

in #steempub7 years ago

I've had 2 crazy weeks, which meant that I've not had any time for steemit.

But tonight I'm back for a whisky review.

After having done a number of Islay Whiskies, we now leave the Island. Not only the Island, we leave the entire country and even the entire continent behind, and we head for:

JAPAN

The whiskey we will be tasting is called:

JAMAZAKURA

JAMA apparently translates as mountain, and ZAKURA translates as cherry. SO this whiskey is called Cherry mountain.

This whisky is produced by the Japanase company Sasanokawa Shuzo, which was founded in 1765.

It is a blended whisky coming in at 40% ABv.

The whisky is fragrant, though there is little complexity. It mostly smells sweetish, with a little bit of solvent in it.

The flavour is very light. There is no peat in this whisky, so there's no smoke or ash. It's mostly flowery, and towards the end it heads more towards fruit and caramel. the fruit becomes identifiable in the aftertaste as plums.

The 40% ABV means that it goes down very easily, and that it doesn't give the kick a cask strength gives you. You will enjoy this whisky, but you will not spend an entire night over one dram, like a heavily peated cask strengther might do for you.

Nevertheless, this is a good whisky, which will drink perfectly, and which you can serve to any connaisseur without fearing to make a mistake.

ANd with that I sign off again. I'll be on holiday. I will be back three weeks from now with a new whisky review.

Cheers
