Hin Bus Sunday Pop Up Market in Penang is a must see attraction. Why?

It's the perfect place for delicious eats, fun vibes, and some local art.

This market happens every Sunday and believe us, it's a goodway to spice up your visit. You can find this market at the contemporary arts center Hin Bus Depot, near Bricklin Cafe (where you must try some coffee with dessert btw). This market is full of crafters, artisans and culinary experts. Small stalls offer funky souvenirs, handmade jewelry, handicrafts, shirts, dreamcatchers, succulents in small pots and homemade food. You can find some aunties with their laksas, nasi lemaks and even lemonade. We tried some food here and it was all delicious. If you don't feel comfortable eating traditional auntie’s food, you can choose a burger or pizza cut from one of the food trucks that are parked here in this garden. While you eat your Sunday lunch, you can enjoy the beat of local musicians.

At Hin Pop Up Market everything is about supporting the local community. You can really feel it in the friendly atmosphere and the homey vibe. It's a great community full of laid back people playing live music, drinking craft beer, eating artisan food and displaying handmade art.

Speaking about the art, here you can window-shop or buy some great pieces of art. Ian was running up and down the garden to check this exhibition. You can find sculptures, paintings, and installations of all kinds. I bet you will find something nice for your eyes, and your stomach!

I would offer one critique. There were small fish trapped in lightbulbs with water and plants. These small Siam fishes couldn't even turn around! I think the scene would be improved without these poor fishes.

Because we needed a little cheering up after seeing the fishes bubbling in a space too small, we found another treat, homemade water kefir. These fizzy drinks are delicious and healthy. The lady has a »mini-factory« of these divine drinks at the market and she is there every day except on Monday. There are four flavors to choose from and all are on offer in a different age. The younger is sweeter and the older one is more acidic with more bubbles. If you're drinking for health, you should have the older one as it's said to be better for you. These fruit kefirs are made only with fruit, water and kefir culture. the fruits she uses are pineapple, passionfruit, ginger and dragon fruit. We had to taste all four, obviously, and all were surprisingly tasty! In the end, we went for ginger and passionfruit. Ginger was a bit older and more acidic, with nice refreshing bubbly-fruity taste. Passionfruit on the other side was more like a desert, with a rich aroma and sweeter taste. When you are there, crack this cold one for the taste and the gut!

The Hin Bus Sunday Pop Up Market takes place on Sundays from 11 am until 5 am, at Hin Bus Depot 31A, Jalan Gurdawa, George Town. One crossroad before this market you have also two amazing food points. First is the lady with her laksa and the other Little Kitchen, where you will experience the real Nyonya food!
