Cua Dai Beach Erosion - Should I Visit It?

in #steempress5 years ago (edited)

Cua Dai beach, located twenty minutes by car from the old town of Hoi An, World Heritage site, was once a must for beach lovers. Cua Dai Beach is part of a 7 km long coastline, and its appearance will never be the same again. Back in 2014, the destructive typhoon literally cleared most of the sandy beach and erosion is progressing since then. Anyway, Cua Dai Beach Erosion is a disaster for sure, but I rather call payback.

Cua Dai Beach was a pearl of Ancient Hoi An City. Well, it still is, just shrinked.

Why is Cua Dai Beach Effected by Erosion?

My first thought would be climate change, but it's not. It's because of stupid people and our appetites. Once back in time here were mangroves and more palms, which hold together this coastline. People smelled money and cleared this area faster than the government printed new money. Resorts and "beach area" replaced all that ecosystem and here we are.

Nice winds there. Wait for Typhoon 2021, apparently, it will be a blast.

According to Vietnamnews.vn, Experts said the beach erosion partly resulted from the development of 33 beach resorts on a 62km coastline from Tien Sa Beach (in Da Nang) to Quang Nam. Of course, there is a big bad typhoon, which is getting stronger every year. Top up this with higher waves and sea-level rise and you have a great combination.

There is also another big bad wolf behind this Cua Dai Beach's erosion. Experts agreed that hydropower dams on the Vu Gia-Thu Bon River system might be responsible for this severe erosion as well. If you ask me it is all about bad managing. Vietnamese people must learn a lot about architecture, especially land architecture.

Paradise comes in many forms.

Is This the End of Cua Dai Tourism?

Of course not! It certainly is a great sign of how bad are we treating our planet and what it will look like in the future, but the tourist activity will remain. Resorts invested a lot of money into stabilization and the construction is here. For those who are seeking peace, this is the best chance. Not many crowds here and restaurants are dumping their prices just to sell some meals.

"Hey Nguyen how's going?" "Same old same old, burning trash and bringing 20 plastic bags daily to my home"

Can We Swimm at Cua Dai Beach?

Vivi and I haven't swim in this water, though. Actually, we didn't through the whole of Vietnam, due to the polluted water. People are swimming and enjoying it anyway, but mostly we saw locals. If you were in Vietnam you know how resistant this race is. So probably, if they swim and drink it, you might catch rashes and worms. Talking about worms, we noticed a few articles on the web about sandworm infections here on this beach. If you are a health panic person, you might be concern about this one as well.

Cua Dai Beach erosion is under control. Just like Ha Long Bay, Da Lat and half of Vietnam.

Cua Dai Beach Future

Local authorities spend a lot of money to stabilize Cua Dai beach Erosion and there was a lot of work already done. However, projects like this are not easy and rough weather conditions are slowing it down. In January 2019, the chairman of Quang Nam Province has submitted a VND700 billion ($30.2 million) request to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc for implementing a project to fight severe erosion at Cua Dai beach.

Dream of every child - playing on the beach with an excavator.

Apparently, there are ideas of making artificial islands to preserve Cua Dai Beach. The future will show, that's for sure. I think, there should be much bigger projects than this. Preserving nature is much more than Tourist attractions. Yes, there is Four Seasons Resort in Hoi An and no I can't enjoy it when I know how bad the situation is here around.

Conclusion

Everyone should visit Hoi An, and get some amazing tailor-made clothes, enjoy amazing food and see this Unesco heritage town. However, when you are there go and check Cua Dai Beach as well. Don't be a hypocrite now, when there are heavy machines and sandbags. Go and see what is going on with our planet. You are also responsible for this. After all, you are spending money in Vietnam and support Vietnamese tourism, which is far from ready for all these tourists masses. Go to the beach and inform others how we are f**** around with our nature. We did our part, and the Cua Dai Beach Erosion photo essay will remain as a warning (COMING SOON)
