Wing Wah Mooncake

I am not a fan of any type of mooncakes. I find mooncakes is a greasy confectionery, sometimes filled with lotus-seed paste and salted egg yolks, bean paste or nuts (I am sure there's a lot more than that but unfortunately my whole life I've only tasted few). But I guess it's true they say that our taste buds age as we do 😂

And now, I am crazy over the moon with mooncakes. Their rich, dense and almost sticky texture gives my mouth some sort of like a foreplay. Haha.

We are so lucky that a friend, all the from Hong Kong brought us a box of lotus seed paste mooncake with egg yolk as a gift.

Wing Wah Mooncake

A brief introduction about Wing Wah.

From its humble beginning at a corner of Yuen Long in 1950, Hong Kong Wing Wah Cake Shop has now developed into a group of restaurants and cake shops with over 50 outlets scattered all around Hong Kong. “Wing Wah” has all along upheld the tradition of using high-quality ingredients and kept abreast with time.

A friend of mine did tell me a story about mooncake. She said that a long time ago in China, most of the people were not satisfied and unhappy with the government and wanted to rebel against the government. The rebellion hid the secret messages inside the mooncakes and pass it to deliver information, the early days of spies and espionage kind of work.

It is interesting how mooncake was used to hide secret messages, to a wonderful delicacy that is enjoyed by the rest of the world. One thing for sure, I really love mooncake by Wing Wah, their version teaches me to learn to love and enjoy eating them. Thank you to my friend for carrying it across the South China Sea and deliver it here in Borneo.
