How to help children appreciate things.

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

We are currently living at a time when seven- and eight-year-olds are already asking for a gift, the latest phone that is fashionable or the latest generation equipment. they no longer ask for dolls, bicycles or toy cars and, in case they acquire them, they use it for a week and then they leave it in the corner of oblivion.

In the same way, many parents, instead of showing their children the true value of things and all the effort that is made to obtain material objects, tend to satisfy all the whims or desires of their children without providing adequate limits. This is a mistake and it is an education without values, which diminishes the importance of effort and generosity.

For this reason, it is important to instill in children the true value of things, which is based on the effort required to achieve it, so that children learn to appreciate everything that surrounds them, to respect the things of others and not to demand things they do not need.

Teach the value of things.

  • Show children the value of sharing and being generous with other children.
  • Explain that every success requires great effort.
  • It is important that children from a young age learn to be responsible with their things.
  • Teach them to be independent, example: to teach them to dress alone.
  • Remind them that things are not for use and throw to the second.
  • Do not reward all your actions, especially when you fulfill your responsibilities.
  • Give an example of good actions, since children copy everything parents do.

Activity for children to learn to value.

When you ask a child that makes him happy, the immediate answers mostly have to do with something material, so it is important to highlight that they think of moments or things that make them happy, but they do not necessarily have to have a monetary value .

For this you should ask him to make a list with the things that make him happy and would be the "list of happiness", but to guide him in this you must create your own list, so that the child understands and learns to discover new things not materials that can make him happy.

Example:

What makes me happy?

  • A hug from my mom when I'm sick.
  • The soup my grandmother makes.
  • Walk in family.
  • Enjoy the rain.
  • To see a sunset.
  • Play with my pet.
  • Go to the beach with my friends.
  • Listen to my favorite song.
  • Read a good book.
  • Eat an ice cream.
This list is unlimited, since every day you can discover something that makes you happy, as well as benefit the children so that they learn to appreciate everything that makes them happy based on their feelings and emotions, that they appreciate the simple things of life and be people in the future less materialistic, selfish and simpler, more generous, compassionate and human.

This list applies to adults and children since it can fill any person with peace and joy when they are in a difficult situation.

Teaching a child that learns to value things, is to help him mature and become an autonomous, responsible and aware of everything around him. It is important that we stop thinking that we make a child happy when we give him everything he wants since we are not teaching him to value, wait, strive to get what he wants and to understand that sometimes you can not have everything when you want.
