RE: Trinkets, Baubles, & Curious Things

That's quite a read, but yah, a really really good one. One of the most exciting things for me is seeing the interconnected play of people taking parts of things and making something old but new, that maybe works better for some people, or encourages someone to try something they haven't been interested in before because it's wrapped in a new package, so to speak.
I remember from an art class I had in college where we discussed whether there actually are any new ideas at all, and I am sure you can imagine it got heated fast. I appreciate original thought if there is such a thing, but cannot deny what the collective consciousness is about and the merit of all.things to be learned in their own right... Together... Separate... Imagined to be separate but really flip sides of the same coin. Humans are amazing beings and I had no idea there was even a word for this hodgepodge collective. Hah. Thank you, really fun read and very thorough in its approach.
Have an awesome day.

Hey @thetreeoflife, thanks for your comment.

Ever watched that really crappy show from the 80's starring Richard Dean Anderson, MacGyver? I think he's a great example of a bricoleur in pop culture - so much so that the name of the character has now become a verb in colloquial.... "to macgyver something".

I've always been in awe of the local handyman or DIY-guy who can fix anything without needing to get 'original' parts. In some respects, I think these kinds of people are dying out as our society gets so fixated on specialisation.

Which for me is another key aspect of being able to think like a 'generalist' - personally I think that's naturally human; specialisation is for insects.
