My ArtVenture: Watercolor painting „Me and my friends” or project “Flying hospital”

Hello dear Steemians,

 

Today I am glad to present you first painting of myself and my friends but back in 90’s, again I wanted to do it sometimes ago but was not sure how it will come out as the picture was too old and colors became pale too. Nevertheless, that is a special moment and after hesitation I finally decided and finished my work yesterday.

Like every of us on and off we look back into the time that we had and events that left special memories. Therefore I have one event from my youth that has connection to both to my medical background and to my first experience with the medical practitioners and medical systems of other countries.

Sometimes in 90’s when I was in the middle of my study of medicine in Kazakhstan it was the time when the country gained its Independence and was open for foreign industries and businesses. The ability to speak language opened the opportunities to be involved in many interesting project and the one that I was involved was called “Flying Hospital”. I wanted to exercise my language skills as interpreter and also studying medicine made it possible to have privilege to be considered.

We were young and excited with this chance and of course of the photo I always wanted to paint and here it is, me and three other colleagues of mine.

This project is non-profit organization that registered in NY but involving the doctors from many other countries but also many different specialties and nurses. Those doctors normally working in ordinary hospitals but they apply for such trips in developing countries to provide treatment for free after agreement with local authorities.

The plane itself is a flying Eye Hospital where the eye surgeries performed. The whole supply of Flying hospital was impressive and high quality. I can imagine how local people appreciated such help.

For us, it was a great experience to meet people from different countries and to be able to help local people to communicate with the doctors using our knowledge of English language for translation. But also just to enjoy nice summer time and new friends.

It is very often I think that this experience was also one of the inspiration for the profession of doctors in general and surgeons in particular.
