World Cup Fever! Singapore Anti-Gambling Ad backfired?
It's THAT time of the year again! World Cup Fever!
World Cup occurs every 4 years, and the last one was in 2014. But I'm not here to talk about the current World Cup today. Did you know that there was a really famous incident, or rather, Advertisement that made it globally, all the way to meme status?
You might have forgotten, so I'm here to bring it back!
You can find the original advertisement here.
The main intention of the video was to educate the public on the dangers of gambling, especially during World Cup Season. It backfired because the boy, Andy, in the video said that he hoped Germany would win the 2014 World Cup as his father banked all of his savings on that single bet. As luck would have it (for both Andy, his father, and the National Council for Problem Gambling), Germany went on to win it.
Some other spin off memes that resulted:
You can see more of them here!
So... What else can you do this World Cup season besides laughing at this? There are many interesting posts on Steemit that you can participate in!
Check out a post by @klw for his compilation.
Also, this is a really interesting project that relies on the Wisdom of the Crowd. You can find out more about this from @Steem-Oracle, what's more, you can even win some SBD just by participating in predicting the World Cup Results!
There are tons of interesting contests and giveaways on Steemit. If you are participating in any other interesting ones, please leave the link below in the comments!
