Iowa Trainwreck

in #steempress4 years ago (edited)

I've already made my forecast for the next US president in an earlier article. However, I also made the point that the Democrat choice of opponent could play a factor in what will be an extremely important election.

The Democrats have got off to a flying start - flying off a cliff that is! Now many of us have had to deal with technology at work that's been rushed out the door, no training given, full of bugs, you can't log on, and keeps crashing. Yes, welcome to Shadow App the brilliant technology designed to prevent Russian hackers from letting Bernie Sanders steal the important first caucus of the Democratic primary in Iowa.

Shadow App was developed with financial aid from candidate Pete Buttigieg who was officially declared the winner of the Iowa caucus much much later in the week.

If things couldn't be any more shadowy for you the parent company ACRONYM are now basically claiming not to know them or what they were doing. They are also, I repeat, also absolutely nothing to do with Clinton or Obama.

Meanwhile it does look like Biden has been replaced. My news feed is filled with profiles of Pete Buttigieg. (As in most UK residents wouldn't know who he is). In my previous article I stated that re: Mayor Pete that if money talks we could hear a lot from this guy yet.

However, I must add an important caveat to my article because at the time Michael Bloomberg had not thrown in his hat. Now in his hat is a reported 60 billion dollars! He already has a lot of money in foundations (aka political influence). Now I hear rumours of Michelle Obama as VP. Could this be the Democratic Dream team? (Although Hilary Clinton has said if she's asked she'll say yes).

The election result in Iowa, late and botched though it was, still clearly demonstrated the very limited democracy (or demockery if you prefer) in the US. A place where candidates can win the majority of the popular vote but still lose.

Prior to the Iowa caucus polls were indicating Bernie Sanders was starting to run away with it. Under these circumstances it looks like the Shadow App pulled the rug from under the feet of his supporters. After the cheating of 2016 Sanders supporters must be thinking is this a party they can trust? Possibly even asking how would it be to have an independent party?
