Maungdaw: Border Guard Police (BGP) looted at least 10 cows from Rohingya Qurbani Bazar at Qulahfara village of Aye Tar Li Yar village track in Maungdaw Township on 18th August 2018, according to several local sources.

At around 2.30 PM, a group of BGP forces suddenly arrived at Qurbani Bazar of Qulahfara where a few Rohingya dairy farmers were selling cows for their one of the largest festivals, Eid-ul-Adha. Under the excuse of an investigation, BGP forces harassed and threatened innocent Rohingyas and forcibly took away ten large cows from them.

'Plundering of Rohingyas’ properties and their livestock by Burmese security forces are nothing in the region. It became extremely difficult to survive for the remaining Rohingyas as they hardly have a chance to earn livelihood since the Burmese ruthless campaign commenced last year.

Though ‘restrictions on Rohingyas’ is not a new policy from the state authorities but accelerated since then. Selling household cows is one of the available means to survive for them which is also about to halt.

Each of the looted cow's usual price is more or less 1,000,000 kyats. It takes a year for a dairy farmer to look after cattle to make worth like this, requires investment and hard physical efforts. In another word, the cost of a cow is the yearly income of a Rohingya dairy farmer.

A victim Rohingya dairy farmer said, in grief, “I have spent a whole year on my cow for this occasion so that I can earn some income. I will have to starve next year.”

“How could we be alive, how long we have to face this type of persecution?”, he further added with distress.

Over a million Rohingya fled to neighboring country Bangladesh to escape Burmese genocidal persecution in recent years. It seems the sufferings of Rohingya is never-ending.

Note: 'Qurbani' is a Rohingya term use for 'Sacrifice'. Muslim all over the world sacrifices domestic cattle for the pleasure of Almighty God during Eid-ul-Adha.
