Interesting.

I'm debating whether to self publish a book, or to create a website. I'm leaning towards website. So, I'll check this out.

Everyone keeps talking about SMT, but honestly this has me excited at its potential. I used to run WordPress sites for my pen names when I wrote, and if this even gets a small fraction of bloggers on board it will explode the use and demand for Steem. As well as cut out all the sleazy ads everyone is sick of.

Good luck with the book or website. Let me know what you end up doing.

I tend to agree with you, @practicalthought, about SteemPress over SMTs. I've used it, and it worked really well, even though it was a while ago and not nearly as feature rich as it is now, or will be. I think they're really trying to make it be, with Wordpress, what Steemit should already be.

My concern with SMTs is that it will be so complicated, at least at the beginning, to set up one, that people will be turned off by it. Maybe they've been working on that since the last time I read about it. I hope so, because complicated isn't going to work for non-dev types.

Meanwhile, this plugin is pretty much doing the work of a SMT, don't you think? I mean, it can potentially monetize the wordpress blogger base. That's a pretty good chunk of the internet. And since it's all open source, too, I would think it dovetails quite nicely.

I mean, it can potentially monetize the wordpress blogger base.

To me, this is huge. If they can tap even a small percentage (5-10%)of WordPress blogs the demand for Steem would skyrocket. I gave up my author websites about a year and a half ago, although I had it set up more as websites with comments disabled. I was using them more to host coupons and give links back towards my sales pages.

I was hoping I could get this post to rank on Google as I have several of my posts that still occupy the first page, but the competition for monetizing blogs is to strong, lol. I am hoping to generate some traffic to the plug in from this post from those who are not using the Steemit site.

The main thing I see derailing this wordpress project, barring some large snafu on the developer's end, is the inability for more users to get signed up any faster than has been happening now for months. That Hardfork 20 needs to get done, needs to be good, and needs to get implemented. We were in the thousands a day when I came in. Now we're in the hundreds at best, with occasional leaps into the thousands. That will frustrate folks coming in from the wordpress side.

Blogging has always been a tough row to hoe, regardless. You do as much connecting with affiliates and ads and coupons and whatever else as you do writing, and then, in my estimation, you end up cluttering up your website with it all and putting the emphasis on them rather than on your post. Which goes to your point. The people reading are there for you and your content. So, if you can, you try to monetize your own stuff, but that still means selling something, which is, while a step in the right direction, still a distraction. Not so much if you're selling what you've written and blogging to gin up interest, but it is if you're selling what you're writing, blogging, and then coming up with T-shirts, hats and other things to sell.

Yes, your read that right.good news
