RE: Did Ross Ulbricht Really Deserve a Double Life Sentence?
Well, I'd never heard of him, or Silk Road.
But it seems the sentence has nothing to do with drugs, but with the success of what he set up using BTC.
Absolutely, I think the government was petrified of the broader implications of what he created and were out to set a severe example of him. Their sentencing did nothing to the industry though, a second and third silk road sprung up as soon as they took them down. The Silk Road is still running today if you know where to look.
Exactly that. They set an example to deter anyone else from setting up a similar operation. It's also crazy to think in the future if they were ever to make all drugs legal (controversial topic) the government would likely replicate his business model as there were many positive aspects built in that would even help right now if it was allowed.
Apparently Ross is in prison with a guy who got a life sentence for weed in Colorado. And is still there despite Colorado making weed legal now.
