Aretha Franklin "The Queen of Soul" ... left her legacy ... indelible footprint of her artistic career
She was born on March 25, 1942, in the United States, specifically in Memphis. She was the daughter of a Baptist Priest and a Gospel Singer. Since she was very young, she was abandoned by her mother, which meant that her father stayed to live with her. They went to live in Detroit. There his father achieved an outstanding career as a priest. It is in the environment of the church that Aretha Franklin was trained as a singer and pianist. With only 12 years old he began to sing in the church where his father preached.

Aretha, as she was called in the artistic medium, in her first years of life as a singer she dedicated herself fully to music and interpreted exclusively religious themes. In 1960, she decides to venture into a type of commercial music. In those days, with two children, she left them in the care of his grandmother and left for New York, in search of representatives and record labels. Due to her vocal quality she received many offers. Finally, decided to stay with Columbia Records.
At end of his contract with Columbia Records, Aretha signed with the record label Atlantic Records. In this record Aretha obtained her first great successes, returning to her origins of R&B. In 1967, the album I've never loved a man, took her directly to the top of fame, earning her the nickname of "The Queen of Soul". With the single entitled Respect she got 2 Grammy awards, besides being a song used at that time by the groups that fought for the rights of blacks and against racism.
In the same year, 1967, she recorded Aretha Arrives, with which she also achieved a resounding success. In the following years she records Lady Soul, Aretha Now and Aretha in Paris.
At late sixties and early seventies, Aretha won many Grammy awards, the result of successes such as Spanish Harlem, Angel, Call Me, I Say a Little Prayer, among others.
After a decline in her artistic career, in 1980 she participated in the film The Blues Brothers, in which in addition to his performance, she gives the song Think, included in the soundtrack. This interpretation supposed the relaunching of Aretha Franklin, making her known to a new generation of young people.
Later, with Arista Records, she produced two new albums, Aretha and Love all the hurt away, with great success among the audience. She shared the stage with many artists of the time, with whom she achieved great successes and sales gains. In 1987 she obtained a Grammy as Best Singer Soul. During her artistic career Aretha Franklin won 18 Grammy Awards.
In 1988, two of her sisters died, Aretha decided to give a break to her artistic career. Then she publishes the album What you see is what you sweat, which did not meet your expectations. In 1998 it resurged strongly with A Rose is Still a Rose, where Aretha Franklin presents a new facet, totally updated, adapted to new times and to a new public.
One of her last works, published in 2003, carries the title of So Damn Happy. It is an album full of energy. It is considered by many as one of the best jobs in the musical career of Aretha Franklin. Her last record was Sings the Great Diva Classics, in 2014.

Aretha Franklin announced her retirement from the art scene at the beginning of the year 2017 by medical recommendation. She had the idea of limiting her diary to few actions, although many of these had equally to be canceled due to her state of health.
