El estado Portuguesa, ubicado en los llanos occidentales venezolanos, posee grandes extensiones de sembradíos donde destacan, entre otros rubros agrícolas, el arroz, sorgo, caña de azúcar y café, por lo cual se le conoce como "El Granero de Venezuela". Su nombre se debe al río Portuguesa que cruza prácticamente en su totalidad la geografía de esta entidad federal, y que de acuerdo a una leyenda local, una joven oriunda de Portugal habría fallecido ahogada en sus aguas, cuando acompañaba a los conquistadores europeos que fundarían la ciudad que hoy en día se conoce como Guanare, capital del estado y asiento del Santuario Nacional Nuestra Señora de Coromoto, patrona de Venezuela.

Durante una corta travesía que realizara a Guanare, me encontraría con un gran sembradío de girasoles a orillas de la Autopista "José Antonio Páez" a pocos kilómetros de la ciudad de Araure, donde hice un alto en el camino con el fin de tomar algunas fotos, muchas de las cuales he compartido anteriormente en mis redes sociales, incluyendo esta plataforma digital.

El girasol es una planta herbácea que se caracteriza por la propiedad conocida como heliotropismo, que consiste en la capacidad que poseen algunas flores de orientarse en dirección al sol con la finalidad de aprovechar mejor su luz durante el día, mientras, durante la noche, realizan movimientos azarosos para inclinarse. De esta planta se extrae aceite comestible rico en grasas poliinsaturadas, además de aprovecharse sus semillas, las cuales se consumen con sal tras ser expuestas a un ligero tostado.

La imagen original tomada un par de años atrás, y la cual presento al final de la presente publicación, fue realizada a color al igual que el resto de las que tomara aquel día. Posteriormente, la modifiqué haciendo uso de la aplicación PicsArt, empleando una superposición de filtros, comenzando con un filtro del tipo HDR (High Dynamic Range) con la finalidad de ampliar los tonos de la imagen original, y posteriormente un filtro sencillo de Blanco & Negro, un procedimiento que ya he usado con anterioridad en otras publicaciones.

The Portuguesa state, located in the western plains of Venezuela, has large areas of crops where rice, sorghum, sugar cane and coffee stand out, among others, for which it is known as "The Barn of Venezuela". Its name is due to the river Portuguesa that crosses almost entirely the geography of this federal entity, and that according to a local legend, a young woman native of Portugal would have died drowned in its waters, when she accompanied the conquerors Europeans who founded the city that today is known as Guanare, capital of the state and seat of National Shrine Our Lady of Coromoto, patron of Venezuela.

During a short trip to Guanare, I would find a large sunflower field on the "José Antonio Páez" Highway a few kilometers from the city of Araure, where I stopped on the road in order of taking some photos, many of which I have previously shared on my social networks, including this digital platform.

The sunflower is a herbaceous plant that is characterized by the property known as heliotropism, which consists in the ability of some flowers to face the sun in order to take better advantage of their light during the day, while, during the night, they make random movements to bow down. From this plant, edible oil rich in polyunsaturated fats is extracted, in addition to taking advantage of its seeds, which are consumed with salt after being exposed to a light toast.

The original image taken a couple of years ago, and which I present at the end of this publication, was made in color just like the rest of the ones I took that day. Subsequently, I modified it using the PicsArt application, using a filter overlay, starting with an HDR (High Dynamic Range) type filter in order to expand the tones of the original image, and then a Black & White simple filter, a procedure that I have previously used in other publications.
