Does exercise make us smarter? (Activity for the classroom)

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

Hello friends of @steemiteducation, in a classroom there are many topics and information that can be taught and transmitted and today it seemed important to me to touch a topic that to some children not all gives as laziness or laziness, the exercises and the physical activity.

The educational sports practice favors healthy lifestyles, increases the possibilities of choice on the part of children and young people increasing their intellectual performance. This is why it is necessary to educate children in this sense and to understand the importance of doing exercises since it brings benefits both physical and emotional and even intellectual.

There are lagging students that the sport does not like because they think it is a waste of time. But exercising in addition to being healthy for our mind and body also teaches many values such as discipline, responsibility, teamwork and even empathy.
I am sure that when you ask your students: "Is exercise healthy for people?" Everyone will answer yes immediately because they somehow know that this is the case. They may know it because at home they have said it, because they have family members who
practice sports or because they have seen it on television.

What effects does exercise have on our intelligence?

There are studies that affirm that both in animals and humans exercise improves the ability to remember and learn in an amazing way. Who could imagine that doing weights, running or doing aerobic exercise can help people become smarter?   Research has established how physical activity increased people's intellectual performance, specifically in children. These studies have shown that more physically capable children had significantly more developed basal ganglia.   The basal ganglia are an area of the brain that help sustain attention and executive control. In this way, voluntary movement, the learning of motor skills, the movement of the limbs and the maintenance of posture are regulated.

***Ask your students to do an information search.***
It is interesting that to be able to work on this topic, you can find relevant information for your students as research on the following aspects:
  • Cardio exercise offers benefits that strengthen memory and improve learning.

  • Moderate exercise such as walking and lifting weights can help with the memory problems associated with the aging process.

***After the search***
Once the students have searched for information, what is important is to be able to contrast the information and create a discussion and reflection group so that they can evaluate the information they have found.   In this way and after an active search you can assess whether the exercise makes us smarter or not. Although I already anticipate that it does help the brain to improve and enhance all its capabilities, that is, exercise makes us smarter.
