WHY FORGIVENESS IS VERY IMPORTANT

 

The Kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

Then the Lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found and found one of his fellow servant , which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, pay me that which you’re owing. So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.

“So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” MATTHEW 18: 23 to 35

 

The issue of forgiveness and unforgiveness is very critical in the Bible. It is one of the situations allot of find themselves in. As life is concerned, offence will never cease to happen. On a daily basis, you may encounter different people who offend you, you may even encounter betrayals from people you trusted with your whole heart. And because of that, you may develop unforgiveness towards a person.

Unforgiveness is very dangerous, in that it can cost you allot of things. If we don’t forgive people when they offend us, God will not forgive us when we sin against him. And I assure you that forgiveness is not easy at times, but you just have to forgive people as they offend you.

Unforgiveness is very unhealthy. Imagine you being chained to a pillar, you cannot move to the next level, you cannot achieve anything when you’re in that state. That is what unforgiveness is, it like being in prison. So that is why you have to forgive people no matter the degree of the offence.

 

It is important to note that you need God’s grace to forgive people. At times, the level of the offence may to great that it becomes difficult to forgive. If you’re in that state, then pray to God and ask him to give you the grace to forgive.
