Getting rid of that annoying nofollow tag from steemit post

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

For more than a month now, we had been using @steempress to conveniently publish our blogs at http://jrvacation.com to our steemit account. Special thanks to the team @howo and @fredrikaa for creating this awesome plugin.

Backlinks

Another more important reason for publishing our blogs to steemit is to get a Google PageRank, as steemit.com is ranked in the top 1000+ website in the world and has greater DA and pagerank. From a SEO perspective, that helps by having backlinks from our steemit site to our wordpress site.

By enabling the default footer message in our blog's steempress plugin, the above message will be published to each of our steemit post. This backlink will, hopefully, create a better pagerank for our blog and post.

But...

For this to work, the target links must not contain a "nofollow" tag. According to Google;

How does Google handle nofollowed links?
In general, we don't follow them. This means that Google does not transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links. Essentially, using nofollow causes us to drop the target links from our overall graph of the web. However, the target pages may still appear in our index if other sites link to them without using nofollow, or if the URLs are submitted to Google in a Sitemap. Also, it's important to note that other search engines may handle nofollow in slightly different ways.

Here is an example of one of our post (https://steemit.com/travel/@jrvacation/atriptokenrokuengardeninkanazawa-7zgz6l2j2j) that contains the nofollow tag.

And heres another post (https://steemit.com/japan/@jrvacation/tokyoonepiecetower-themeparkandcafe-9lqrsfpm4y) that does not contain the nofollow tag.

Obviously, the second post is better. Without the nofollow tag in the target link, it is better SEO for our blog site.

So, why is there a difference?

Apparently, it depends on the post payout of your steemit post. For all posts having <$10 payout, the nofollow tag will be automatically added to the target link. And once the post exceeds $10, the nofollow tag will be gone.

For us, it is important to get rid of that nofollow tag from all posts published through @steempress-io from our blog. Even with generous tip from @steempress bot, some of our posts are still not achieving that $10 post payout value. To ensure it does, one way is to use a little bidbot to boost the value and make sure it reaches $10.

Suggestion

With the current low Steem price, it is getting more and more difficult to reach $10. This is even more so for minnows or fresh wordpress blogger who just joined Steemit. Perhaps STINC would like to review this setting and make it relative to Steem price.

If you are seriously looking to grow your blog outside of Steemit, this little setting is definitely something to pay attention to.

Interesting, I haven't been using SteemPress. So you mean you cannot edit the post directly to create your own link or edit the link?

Actually nothing to do with steempress. It’s about google SEO. If you have a link from your Steemit post back to your website, it helps to boost your website seo, as Steemit.com has a high authority. So there will always be people who create Steemit accounts just for this purpose.

The $10 feature acts as a deterrent stop spammers who want to abuse the system. Steemit always favor payout. If your post has high payout, then you are trustworthy. But with bidbots around, only the rich are trustworthy now haha.

Oh I see. I didn't know there's such a feature on steemit. Is it the same for busy.org and steempeak?

How did you find out the $10 setting to make this all happened?

It’s been documented and written by others before. With more people using steempress, this feature is becoming more important now.

Thank you for sharing. But how do you get your googlepagerank?

Great article, I had no idea that they added the nofollow tag for posts with less than $10 payout. It's so hard for most people to even get that many rewards, especially at the current prices.

Upvoted some of your latest posts, since I can't upvote this one anymore :)
