What would the world be if Colón had not arrived on American soil? | What do you think that would have happened?
In this case, traveling by bicycle, in a part of the route I went through a square where I could see a statue of Christopher Columbus, as we all know, is one of the first Europeans 1 </ sup> who came to these lands, which later would be called America 2 </ sup>, but its arrival in this continent is full of many stories, realities that changed both for those who arrived and those who were already here.
I want to raise two visions around this event, and that each one draw their conclusions.
For visiting my blog thank you very much.
Welcome to my new publication.
1 I say "One of the first people to step on this continent", because it is debatable, since there are theories that say that before the division of the continents there was migration from Africa and Europe to the American continent.
2 America: This name is because it was the Italian Américo Vespucio who made the first map of this continent.
Christopher Columbus was looking for ways to avoid the Moors that were on the coasts ready to hack the ships that passed by, stealing the goods and causing losses in a Spain that at that time was in very poor economic conditions, whose commercial exchange With India it was very good.
It turns out that Columbus had the crazy idea (crazy idea at that time) that the earth was round, and said:
Well, if I go in reverse, I'll take more, but I'll avoid the pirates and we can continue to market.
The Spanish Crown doubting support with boats and crew to this navigator. Here is something important to highlight, a good part of the crew that was given to sail were the prisoners, since the prisons were full, because if they were lost in the attempt they were not important people that would be lost.
I want to make a parenthesis at this point, since it is of the utmost importance, as we know, Colon arrived with his crew to these lands, in fact he managed to make several return trips bringing gold to the Spanish crown, unfortunately a good part of the foundation of Latin American cities were not led by people with the best values, perhaps a good part of what happens in Latin America is due to the fact that we started badly from the beginning. Here the phrase fits perfectly: to understand the present you have to know the past.
I continue, when the Spaniards arrived to our lands they not only brought their boats, they also imposed their culture, religion, types of houses, food, clothing, they also brought their diseases, trade, they changed practically everything.
One thinks that product of which the natives did not have organically how to defend themselves of those diseases died hundreds of thousands.
Then they brought African labor, as slaves, to work the land, among other things. That is why we are so diverse in our continent, whites, blacks, mestizos, blondes, among many other combinations.
Well, many will say that this is horrible, that it should not have happened, that our aborigines were calm with their lives and in balance with nature, that the Spanish Crown should return to America all the gold, pearls, diamonds it took, * many things like these I've heard *.
But you have to be focused, rational, know what happened to understand the current reality. And accept it, we can not change it.
Our American history is told in schools from a European point of view, in fact, universal history is "history of Europe", and I must say as a personal position that while in what is called old continent things happened, here too, always there existed a social, economic organization, its way of worshiping its gods, deities, a particular gastronomy; then part of our job is to rescue that and to know that it was not a culture better or worse than the European culture, it was just different.
We must also thank, despite everything that happened (which for many was atrocious) all this cultural richness of our American continent we owe to that mixture of races.
That we must continue to search for our reality, to be rooted in our own, to recognize the intelligence and courage of our aborigines when confronting and opposing an opponent with a huge advantage (horses, gunpowder, weapons, ammunition, boats, dogs, among many other things ) and despite that there are still many cultures that remain intact, faithful to their beliefs, I applaud for that, because everyone is valued from their differences.
I say goodbye, I just wanted to make a small reflection about it, product of what awakened the statue that I present to you in images.
What would happen to us if Columbus had not arrived?
The exact answer to that question I do not know, but of something if I'm sure, not only American history would be different, but that of the entire world.
Note: all images were captured with my Huawei Y320 phone.

If Colón had not arrived on American soil?
The world still would to be that.
because had not Colón, still would have 001 or 002 or 003 or 005 to 007 arrived on American soil, only time more slow.
historical change - The big direction is not going to change
Just turning fast and turning slow.
Personally, I think that the world would have been better off, we would have a better genetic diversity with native American tribes like the Navaho and Cherokee being a lot more promonent, the decendants of tribes like Tianos, Incas and Aztechs all had pretty cool tech and ways of thinking and i'm pretty sure they would have adapted as fast as the Europeans and the Asians did if they had been given the chance and been wiped out through genocide
Its a really good question and something I've asked myself in the past. I guess we will never know what their contribtiions to modern society would be should they not have been removed form history at scale. Plenty of their acheivements also have been attributed to others who have stolen or copied their ideas in art, politics and horticulture.
