NYC LATE ARCTIC BLAST HYPE OR HAPPENING - Good morning everyone. There is much talk circulating the internet about a late winter arctic blast, blocking pattern, and thirty five feet of snow from late February to April. In the meantime, we have ourselves a cloudy and seasonal day on the menu. Everything discussed yesterday is on schedule as far as our seasonably normal, but cloudy day today with highs in the mid to upper 30's. 50 and afternoon rain tomorrow courtesy of an advancing warm front, then a soaking rain on Sunday, with highs near 50 or possibly low 50's. Mild air behind this system will give us a fairly pleasant week temperature wise, but we could see a few onset snowflakes Tuesday morning with some overrunning precip. Whatever flakes do fall, will turn to rain in a familiar pattern we've had for the past week or two. Look for highs all week 45-50, with Monday and Wednesday being the nicest days of next week. In the long range, I remain skeptical in terms of any major arctic blasts coming down and reeking havoc in the area. Yes, very cold cold air will try to advance into the northeast once again for a final showdown between Old Man Winter and the realities of an approaching springtime, but I still have questions as to how long it lasts or how many times it can recharge before it begins to peter-out. Rather than scare the crap out of everyone, or give snow lovers false hope, I'll be approaching this potential pattern change conservatively and with a lot of skepticism.
