Las Calles de Cumaná | The Streets of Cumaná
Saludos Todos / Greetings, Everyone
Siguen las lluvias en Cumaná y con ellas las aguas negras desbordadas en todas las calles. Esto es solo una muestra del efecto acumulado de la desidia, la inoperancia y la corrupción que han permitido que todas las calles de Venezuela luzcan así. Y pensar que esta revolución pretende salvar el planeta.

It keeps raining in Cumaná and with it the sewage waters keep flowing freely along the streets. This is just a sample of the accumulated effects of indolence, inefficiency, and corruption that have made all Venezuelan streets look like these ones. So much for a revolution that was going to save the planet.
Tengan en cuenta que Cumaná es la capital de un estado y estas calles estan un un radio de unas cinco cuadras alrededor del centro de la ciudad.
Keep in mind that Cumaná is the capital of a state and these streets are in a five-block radius around the downtown area.

¿Vivir en un ambiente tan contaminado no debería constituir alguna violación a algún derecho humano? No se, digo yo, aprovechando que la Alta Comisionada está de visita.
Shouldn't living in such a poluted environment be considered some kind of vilation of some human right? I'm just wondering, now that the High Commisioner is visiting us.

Sadly, some parts of South Africa experience the same problem with local authorities doing nothing. You are right: a violation of human rights not to mention being a public health hazard

I wonder what is it that makes some politicians to be so cynical about their role and place in history. It is as if they do not feel any sense of obligation or pride in leaving some significant legacy behind.
I don't know if it is a cultural things and in some countries politicians are more "given" to their voters or in their cultures laws and citizens' power makes them be more responsible.
I think it has a great deal to do with the individuals and what power does to them. Power does awful things. Especially to people who have neither compassion nor empathy for their fellow humans. If they cannot see their compatriots as their counterparts on a human level, this is the result. The state capture enquiry here, is showing this up. Very scary stuff

Rompe el corazón ver a Cumaná así... una ciudad que guarda tantos recuerdos de mi infancia... y es como dices, será que la comisionada pasará por estas calles? yo creo que sí, ellos saben como están las cosas igualmente. A veces se me ocurre pensar que las cosas serian muy diferentes si cada comunidad se hubiese gestionado a sí misma, a través de un modelo distinto, porque esto de depender del gobierno (para arreglar las calles, o lo que sea) es terrible, es decir, la dependencia extrema a la que nos ha llevado este mismo gobierno, en vez de buscar hacernos cada vez más independientes y libres, nos han vuelto cada vez más dependientes, pero bueno, creo que no hay mal que dure cien años y algo habrá que aprender y algo quedará de todo esto.

Estoy de acuerdo contigo en que la dependencia del gobierno nos volvio inutiles. Ese fue siempre el plan.
Es muy dificil, yo diria imposible, general autogestion en comunidades plagadas de miseria, dscordia, miedo y desesperanza.

Yep.
The recent scandals have been even more depressing than all the damage done so far. It is really frustrating to hear government officials laugh about the falure of the opposition to depose them and their inability to keep a clean face.
For people who do not care about political affiliation, just about things well done it is very frustrating not to be able to trust any politician and give up any hope that an actual political change will bring any significant change in the big picture.
