We-Write with @iamjadeline: Eagle Scout

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

@iamjadeline's part of the freewrite:

Kevin was a known Eagle Scout at his school. Why not? He was tall, handsome, muscular, smart and skillful. But a little snobbish, or impatient to those who weren't that smart, or looked down those who did not look so charismatic. Nooby-look.

As usual, his school organised annual outing for the Boys' Scout. This was THE outing the boys excitedly looked forward because the Girls' Brigade would collaborate too.

Kevin was sent to scout out places; hills, rivers or jungle suitable for this year's theme - Together We Can Do More. Hence, Kevin were asked to partner with Lois to scout so that they could find a venue which fit both gender.

However, everytime when there was teamwork needed, there bound to be problem as long as Kevin was in charge. He was the type of leader who always thought the head was the most important. And that body parts sometimes were annoying. Any body parts which could not follow the lead of the Eagle Scout, Kevin would feel extremely irritated and annoyed. If he would be given a chance, he would be the sole Head leaving all the headless behind. Lol.

This set him up as Lois was spear-headed too, maybe a little lower grade than Kevin, but yes, she was very opinionated. Little did they know, their advisors purposely set them up so that they could learn about teamwork, real leadership, and comradeship. That life is about working together, to realise each member of the body is equally important, that the weak and the strong can be a great team too.

Kevin and Lois detested the arrangement and they too thought they had been set up. In fact, they both think that alone by themself, they could complete the task.

"So, we are supposed to work together huh? I am honestly telling you that you are not my ideal partner but let's just hope for the best," Lois went over to Kevin.

Kevin's eyes opened in disbelief to what he had just heard,"Same here. We just have to get the job done. Now, let's try the waterfall site that I have recently researched on."

"I have a better idea. I know of a national park which allows us to set up our own tents and use its natural resources, so long we don't damage the natural habitat. That way, we learn about the environment conservation as well!" Lois went on and on, not noticing that Kevin was actually rolling his eyes by the side.

"You are always so full of yourself, aren't you?" Kevin interrupted her finally.

"Excuse me?" Lois exclaimed.

"Well, we can go on our separate ways and we meet up again with photos and information of the place we want to check out by dusk. That way, we don't have to agree with each other, " suggested Kevin.

"Fine!" Lois stomped off.

However, when nightfall came, there was no sign of Lois at all. The sun had set and when Kevin called her, it was said that she could not be reached.

Kevin started to feel worry. Though he did not know Lois well, they were accountable to each other.

"Perhaps we should have gone together. Let's hope she is okay," murmured Kevin. He googled up the place she said and drove over. When he was there, he saw some rangers were already looking anxious.

"What happened here?" asked Kevin.

One of the rangers replied, "A girl came here without another partner and she is now lost!"

"I know her! Her name is Lois! I need to join this search with you," said Kevin.

"Okay, only if you stay close to me and not wander off by yourself. Else, we have to search for you later. I wonder why they let her go alone. In any course, teamwork emphasizes a lot of accountability," these words made Kevin felt very guilty.

"LOIS!! Where are you?" he started shouting around.

There was no reply and the sky was really getting darker. He went closely with the ranger who knew the national park well. Suddenly, he heard a faint groaning. Kevin traced the sound and then as he moved closer, he heard someone yelling for help.

"LOIS!!" he quickly went over, followed by the ranger.

They found Lois who sprained her ankle and fell down a small slope.

"You came for me! Now I have to agree with you that perhaps the site you want to propose is safer," Lois smiled bitterly.

"No, I wasn't totally right either. I failed our teamwork of going to scout out this place together with you. That was totally unsafe," Kevin replied.

Together with the ranger's help, Kevin managed to carry Lois up to a safe area. They knew it was both their faults to think only their own opinion matters and disregard the teamwork that was intended for them. Though both of them are rather smart, they could be even smart-ER together!

Of course, from that day on, both of them learnt to trust others despite of their own opinions. Do you think their leaders knew they needed to learn this the hard way? Sometimes, we don't realize how important teamwork is until we actually need it.

It was great partnering with @iamjadeline again for the we-write! Our time was very different this time, that we took more than a day to complete this! The first part was written by @iamjadeline and the second part by me. We chose option 3:

Option 3 - This option is especially good if you can't find a time which suits both writers - Each freewriter writes a 5 minute freewite. - Exchange the freewites (This can be done in comments, through Discord, Steemit Chat, or email) - Write 5 more minutes on the partners freewrite and finish the story. - You can both publish the freewrites and if you want, add a bit on how that kind of writing felt to you. Was it fun? Difficult? Want to do it again?

It was fun!!!

Freewrite is a prompt writing initiated by @mariannewest and @improv to write a free-flow post without correcting or editing. I checked out her post to really get what it is before I jumped on the bandwagon. Basically, there is no right or wrong, just let the mind and fingers do their work, to find our creative self and let it come out of us.

Wow what a great story you and @iamjadeline put together!! I LOVE the idea of collaborating your freewrites! 😍

This story shares a very important lesson about teamwork, being humble and allowing others to lead. I really enjoyed reading it and looked forward to getting to the end to see how it turned out. Well done ladies!!❤️

Thank you @crosheille :) This is our second we-write that we collaborated together. The @freewritehouse has this thingy on Wednesdays. It challenges us more to continue from where the other person has left off with, just like our SteemitMamas writealong!!

That is so cool! That’s exactly what it reminded me of! I’ll have to read more of these! 😊

Wow! You guys wrote a lot in five minutes. It's a complete story. Well done.

I think I took extra 2 to 3 minutes @ntowl lol

I tried to brain my story as much as I could in my mind until I could "see" it after I read her prompt. After that it was the fingers typing as much as possible and I made sure no one come to me at all at that time!!! Lol. Though, I did go back to check on my spellings, it's quite a habit now.

Thank you @ntowl. It's not always I manage to put an ending to stories. Honestly, this story didn't take too much of a twist and the storyline is rather ordinary (my part) so perhaps that's why I thought there isn't too much excitement to elaborate on :P

It is always exciting and entertaining to read another person finished off your story. Totally love this. :)

Haha thanks. It's always nice collaborating with you @iamjadeline! :)
