My @steemit fairytale (Steemitbloggers contest)

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

Once upon a time, actually, exactly a year ago from today, there was a sad Witch. Even though she didn’t cast bad spells, she’d been known as a witch for the last thirty-odd years. The diagnosis had come from Son-from-another-Mother who, at six, had come across a book that told him how to identify witches: they drink copious quantities of tea and have at least one familiar.

“You and my mum drink lots of tea. But you have a familiar,” he said.

“I do?” said the witch.

“Yes,” he said, “your cat.”

So the appellation stuck and when The Husband came along and confessed to having been bewitched, was most disappointed that he’d been pipped to the post – a story for another time.

Why was the witch sad? The stream that had sustained her for the last 25 years had dried up. Completely. A curse.

A few days earlier, in a chance conversation with Fairy @jaynie, “Are you still blogging?”

”Not as much as I’d like,” said the witch.

“Why?”

“Well, the stream has dried up. I’m working hard on finding a new one. You know that even though it was the theory, the blog did nothing to add to the stream. We have a drought. I’ve now got to find a new mountain and a new stream. Or two.”

“Hmmm…” said the fairy, “you know I’ve had my own trip up one of those streams and the cookie monster ate all my fairy dust?”

“Sheesh, yes, I do! Why?”

“Well, I think I’ve found a new world that has more than one stream and where we can all collect fairy dust and share it with other people. It’s a world that welcomes princesses, paupers and, of course, benign witches. No passport required. Just a magic key.”

The witch is not a quick decision-maker. She’s a Pisces, so she chases her tail for a while, but once she decides, she follows through. She took a deep breath and followed the steps to get her magic key, and started her journey into a whole new world. A very little minnow in a very large, steemy ocean. She floundered. A lot; she couldn’t seem to find her niche. She didn’t feel welcome and she found it difficult to meet like-minded people. That, and work on yet another stream, in the outside world, meant she stepped out of @steemit for a while.

At the same time, Fairy @jaynie was going through her own struggle to find and build a stash of fairy dust to sprinkle over those near and dear. That, though, is her story, not the witch’s, but out of that struggle has come a castle that is a full of treasures. As the witch discovered.

The castle is built on some basic principles and rules which include mutual support. Fairy @jaynie rules her subjects with a wand of iron and those who accept that gentle touch, and share it, are the richer for it.

As the witch discovered not long after she found her spot in that castle.

One morning, minding her own business, she was offered a GIFt. Now, it should be understood that benign witches are slow to spot evil, and in accepting that GIFt, opened herself up to a goblin attack that stole her magic key. Cursed again?

She didn’t know what to do, so she rushed home to the #steemitbloggers castle where she found help from the clan of fairies and elves with whom Fairy @jaynie has surrounded herself.

Elf @zord189 sprinkled the dust of reason and care, and elf @raymondspeaks replaced what the goblins had stolen. Following advice from @simplymike and the @steemcleaners, the witch recovered her magic key and her place on @steemit and in the #steemitbloggers castle.

Post Script:

This is just a little of my fairytale year on @steemit that began on 21 July 2017.
