**STEEMPRESS UPDATE** @steemcommunity recently put out a #tenkiminnows post inviting the soon-to-be-minnows to use the @steempress - My first impression are THIS IS AWESOME. Back to my continued Jersey Channel Island Blog Series - My home from home
I recently wrote about an interesting lcoation in Jersey called Noirmont. Today I want to let you know about St Aubin - a beautiful little town in a huuuge bay on the south of the island. This is an old small town and retains many traditional Jersey features and is classically French/English influenced. I've even heard people here talking Jersey French, an old but sadly declining Norman dialect - it's like Franglish.
When the sun shines on a good summers day in Jersey, you get the feeling that you are in the Mediterranean, not the English Channel - that brown strip of water that separates the UK and the continent. Just look at the image below - Look like a nearby crown dependency of the UK?! Some beaches nearby make you feel like you've just landed in Greece or Turkey, such as the small and pretty Beauport Beach.

The beach, (or the entire bay that starts in St Aubin and ends in St. Helier) is made of fine sand and when the tide is flat, extends for miles. Due to this you get some beach sports here if the conditions are right. Watch out for the dreaded sea lettuce though that sometimes washes up!

When the tide is out you can walk to St. Aubin's Fort (or you could fly the drone there, your choice!). This is an old fort, originally built during the times of the Spanish Armada in the 1500's. Since those times it has been modified many times and its usage has changed. It is now an outdoor activity centre (perhaps you can see the boats and kayaks in the image). During 1940's under German occupation it was a defensive fort and command centre. Jersey has many sea forts and this is one of the most iconic - wait till the tide is favourable and go visit!

One of the dominating features of St Aubin is the Somerville Hotel. This is a grand hotel that overlooks the town from the hillsides. The accommodation and facilities are excellent and a night stay is well worth it. If you'd like to go for a drink or food, there is a very comfortable bar and lounge area and if the weather is right, a decked area to sit outside and enjoy a nice cold drink. Sweet pool too 😎

The tidal harbour is busy in the summer months with boats coming and going. During low tide the water retreats and the boats get stuck in the mud, as shown in the picture below. Many pubs and restaurants surround the harbour and are fine places to hang out. La Belle Gourmand does nice snacks and good strong coffee. If you want fancy food and wine, The Boathouse won't disappoint. The Fish and Chips from the Seafish Cafe is the best on the island (I've still got many more places to try though!) and in the evening, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays this place and many nearby bars are busy with lots of revelers enjoying themselves. Some Saturdays you get a little market selling local wares. There is a nice sense of community.

I must admit, when I've visited in the past, St. Aubin is the place were I've spent most of my time, it has that perfect mix of French/English style (take a walk down Rue du Crocquet and you'll understand!) with cafes, bars and a lovely view. I hope you have enjoyed the images an the information on this small part of an interesting and vibrant island!
