Dronelife - Consultation: UK MPs set to investigate the risks of dronessteemCreated with Sketch.

Calling all UK based drone operators! (please comment if this is you it would be AWESOME to connect and to follow you!)

The UK Government has recently opened a consultation with the public on drone ethics and safety. This is to both hobby and commercial pilots! This kind of thing helps shape the future of the industry, and in a country that is governed with such an ailing political class at the moment, real peoples views are NEEDED! The last time that the government put out a consultation, only a few hundred responded with their views - not much! This is perhaps only a few hundred out of the tens, maybe even hundreds of thousands of people that use drones in the UK. That's small number of people that are actively shaping the industry for everyone else.

All the Government are asking is for your honest opinions. Such as, do you think drones are safe? Is geofencing an issue or a help? Do you think the manufacturers are being responsible? Do the rules go too far, or not far enough?

This is what the consultation says:

Drones: ➕ Positives and ➖ Negatives

Drones have had a range of positive impacts across a variety of industries, from commercial photography and aerial surveying, through to crop spraying and parcel delivery. However, following increased recreational popularity, there have been several suspected drone incidents, including dozens of ‘near misses’ between drones and aircrafts.

Following two previous consultations on drone safety and security and incursions at Gatwick and Heathrow airports the Government is planning to bring forward a ‘Drones Bill’ in 2019.

The Committee is seeking written submissions on:

  • The ethical implications of civilian drones on citizen privacy and safety in the UK;
  • The effectiveness of built-in drone safety features, such as tracking and monitoring capabilities, in mitigating the risks of civilian drones;
  • The effectiveness of anti-drone technology in mitigating the risks of civilian drones;
  • The economic opportunities arising from the growth of drone technology;
  • The success, or otherwise, of regulatory frameworks for civilian drones and what should be covered in the forthcoming ‘Drones Bill’;
  • The plans for registration of civilian drones in the UK;
  • The current state of drone safety education and research in the UK; and
  • International comparators with exemplary drone-interference prevention policies.

If you have the time and are UK based, definitely send in your views, the more that do the better. If you want to talk about it here, comment and lets discuss! Remember it is great to discuss and debate, this leads to better rules and legislation! Link below:

I like the fact that you encourage discussions and debates @dronegraphica. Even if people disagree there is always in one way or another, some common ground to be found. On another note, you have a link to shutter stock and mention that you can make many from your photography. I have a couple questions about it, First have you uploaded your photos on shutter stock and found any success. Second me being a complete amateur with only an iPhone should I be looking in to it at the moment or later down the line. lastly in your own opinion what do you think of my photography I wish to build up my skills and some criticism would be great if you don't mind :)

Hey @enosh! Yes I do, I feel like a failing of this platform is there just isn't enough interaction with others, it is all too easy to just click upvote or post something visual, in order to receive only these easy upvotes. Anyway, I think that people will just use Steem how they want to :) Yes! I wrote a blog post on this subject a while back... I've made almost 200 dollars now. Unfortunately there isn't a blockchain/crypto alternative yet that is as good as Shutterstock. I'd definitely recommend using it and they do accept iPhone images, I have another account with lots of very colourful phone shots. I know people who have bought a good digital camera, used their talent and made the money back. Videos are particularly lucrative too! As for your photos, i'll take a look and leave some comments :) note: I am no professional!
