Frozen World

-I always thought that there would be no worse place than Alberic, but by far, this horrible white desert beats him- Salomón said as he advanced with difficulty on the frozen surface.

-Thinks that, if we find a deposit of palladium, we will be rich and according to the sensors this site must be up to the neck, so move and do not complain so much - Estefania answered, while pushing it, trying to make it move faster.

-For the hell Estefania, you did not find a damn world where we were at least 223 degrees Kelvin,- he continued complaining, while advancing guiding the electromagnetic wave emitter.

-You could both shut down for a moment, I can not concentrate on the numbers on the computer,- Ronald shouted through the communicator, which monitored the readings from the ship.

The corporation's CMG-0121 mining exploration ship was one of the oldest in the fleet, its technology was several hundred years behind today, even though its space-time impulse engines and computer systems had received an update. A little over a decade ago, it was not up to the others. The objective of this one, as well as of the other ships exploration of the corporation, was the search of mineral deposits in non-habitable worlds.

The crew of CMG-0121, consisted of four members, Salomón Romney and Estefanía Salvatore, both engineers in mining systems, Ronald Salvatore, Estefanía's brother and captain of the ship, expert in seismic data analysis and environmental engineer and engineer of flight, Isaac Ramírez, who had been absent from this mission.

Their search had taken them to a frozen planet in orbit around a yellow dwarf in an unexplored area of the Centaur-Shield arm, it was a rocky planet with a thick layer of carbon dioxide ice.

It had been several hundred years since the corporation had begun the exploration of this part of the galaxy, especially after the Andromeda Ship incident, from which it was thought that its descendants could be somewhere in this sector of the galaxy, what was an incentive for the exploration of it and although archeology was not of interest to the corporation, always served as an excuse for obtaining permits to explore distant worlds, out of sight of the parliament.

The detection of a possible vein of palladium, metal of great value for the development of integrated systems for terraforming equipment and the construction of computer systems in general, brought them to the surface of this hard and miserable world.

The funny thing was that the planet as such did not seem to have content of this metal, only a localized area where there was a large amount, possibly it would be a meteorite fallen in the last three or four thousand years.

-Stop!- Ronald exclaimed through the communicator, -that's the place.-

-Damn, it's about time, I feel that, if you hit my butt with a hammer, it will break into pieces,- Solomon said, stopping, -well let's map this thing to get it out.

They traveled through the area with the emitter, locating the boundaries of the vein to dig, after a few hours they had already located the point where they had to start the thaw to discover the rock, so they set out to fix the center of the heater. Before programming the device Ronald realized something that he had overlooked.

- There is something strange with this, the vein is in the middle of the ice crust, this is absurd - he said.

-As in the middle of the ice, that's impossible- Estefania answered.

-What I say, whatever it is, is not in the rock base, it's in the middle of the ice, it can not be a vein, and I doubt that a meteor of that size and mass has fallen here, without creating a crater enough deep enough to reach the base rock,- Ronald explained.

-And then, what the hell can it be !? - Salomon exclaimed, noticeably uncomfortable.

-We will not know until we dig,- Ronald answered, as he began the operation of the heater. -Stand aside. I do not want you to cook.-

The apparatus rose from the loading bay of the ship and flew to be located ten meters above the point indicated, and began the emission of a combination of infrared radiation and microwave that began to sublimate the ice sheet.

After an hour, the object began to be revealed, buried under a twenty meter layer of carbon dioxide ice.

-Damn Ronald, stop the heater, you will not believe what this damn thing is- exclaimed Estefanía, who was watching the operation with attention.

When the slight cloud of vapor formed by the scarce water, contained in the ice, had dissipated, the three could see a ship of familiar appearance.

-That thing looks like a human ship, but it does not look like any of the ones I know- said Solomon. -Let's see what it is-

The upper deck of the ship was intact, it was the only thing that stood out from the ice, at the top was what looked like the ejection hatch of the pilot's capsule, after removing it with a plasma torch, they could access the interior of the ship , when going down to the cabin they found the frozen body of the pilot, to his amazement it was a human, poured with a uniform unknown to them, but what really impressed them was the dimensions of that man, he should measure about two meters and medium.

-It's big, how you like Estefania- Salomon said mockingly.

Estefanía did not respond at all and just pointed to the front of the ship - he had to hit the front, the cabin was destroyed and he died instantly, I guess it had some damage to the navigation system, maybe an ice storm confused its sensors and ended up crashing- Estefanía inquired ignoring the joke of Solomon.

-Well, from what I can see back in the cargo compartment, the ship was carrying several hundred tons of palladium, that explains, because the sensors guided us here, what will we do now? - Solomon asked after checking the ship.

-Announce the parliament, what else we can do, they will take care of this, we must go to the bridge to transmit the message- Ronald answered.

-Damn, should we go back? This dirty journey goes from bad to worse, first the idiot Isaac does not come and I have to do his homework, then I freeze my ass on this horrendous planet and now we have to turn back for two months until the bridge and all this without earning a penny- snapped Salomon, clearly annoyed.

-You shut up Solomon and move your frozen ass to the ship to return once to the bridge- Ronald answered closing the communication.
