Salah satu perairan yang sering kita jumpai adalah sungai. Aliran air yang terus menerus mengalir dari hulu menuju hilir, itulah sungai. Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari tanpa disadari manusia sangatlah membutuhkan sungai. Manfaatnya sangatlah dibutuhkan oleh manusia.

Sungai memberi manfaat secara ekonomi bagi manusia. Tidak hanya itu, kebutuhan pokok manusia adalah air. Sehingga sungai dapat dikatakan sebagai salah satu sumber air bagi manusia. Numun hal yang sangat disayangkan, kini banyak manusia yang merusak sungai. Seharusnya kita menjaga sungai, karena begitu banyak manfaat sungai bagi kehidupan manusia. Berikut beberapa manfaat sungai.

1.Pembangkit Tenaga Listrik

Sungai yang memiliki aliran yang deras memiliki manfaat untuk dijadikan sumber tenaga listrik. Aliran sungai tersebut dapat menggerakkan turbin sehingga menjadi sumber tegana listrik. Negara kita Indonesia memiliki pembangkit listrik tenaga air, salah satu contohnya yaitu yang berada di Asahan, Sumatra Utara.

2.Penampung Air Hujan

Ketika musim hujan datang, tidak bisa dipungkiri lagi disaat itu pula sungai sangatlah memiliki peran penting. Sungai akan menampung air hujan. Jika tidak ada sungai, air hujan akan tergenang dimana-mana. Air hujan dari gunung akan mengalir ke laut. Oleh karena itu, jagalah kebersihan di sungai, agar tidak terjadi banjir ketika musim hujan datang.

3.Sumber Irigasi

Agar petani makmur, salah satu komponen pertanian yang harus dibangun adalah irigasi. Irigasi memiliki peran penting untuk pertanian. Untuk terbentuknya irigasi, dibutuhkannya sungai. Oleh karena itu, sungai memiliki peran penting. Dengan adanya irigasi, petani dengan mudahnya membangun sistem perairan untuk kebutuhan tanaman mereka.

4.Objek Wisata

Sungai yang bersih dan terjaga memiliki daya tarik tersendiri karena keindahannya. Oleh karena itu sungai dapat dikatakan sebagai objek wisata. Jika sungai tersebut memiliki air terjun, maka akan menambah keindahannya. Pada kebiasaannya, sungai yang memiliki air terjun banyak di datangi oleh wisatawan. Hal ini memiliki dampak positif bagi masyarakat setempat, karena jika banyak wisatawan yang datang ekonomi masyarakat akan menjadi lebih baik lagi.

5.Sumber Air Bersih

Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari kita sangat membutuhkan air. Contoh kecil kegunaan air dalam kehidupan sehari-hari yaitu untuk mencuci piring, mencuci pakaian, untuk mandi, dan untuk memasak. Kebutuhan itu tidak dapat dihindari oleh manusia. Sungai menyediakan air bersih, bahkan sebagian besar perusahaan penyedia air bersih mengambil air di sungai.

Melihat kegunaan air bagi kehidupan sehari-hari manusia sangatlah berguna dan berfariasi kegunannya. Oleh karena itu, mari kita menjaga kelestarian sungai yang berada disekitaran kita. Tuhan telah menciptakan alam semesta ini sangat indah dan banyak manfaatnya, salah satunya adalah sungai. Namun, mengapa kita manusia tidak menjaganya, malah kita merusaknya. Mari kita sadar akan manfaat sungai bagi kehidupan kita di masa sekarang dan masa selanjutnya.
