Musika meaning Music and Kalye meaning Street merges the theme of Filipino Culture, Music and the Arts and takes these to the streets of Manila.

Musikalye - Alay sa Kababaihan means sacrifice or offering for women. The musikalye concert last March 10 at the Luneta Park in Metro Manila celebrated women. @tiffanyanne, who we spent some time with at the last Musikalye concert represented @steemph with @annazsarinacruz, also with attendance from @kuminga.

Women celebrating women.

Fresh from the Cavite Meetup Caravan, @tiffanyanne, @annazsarinacruz distributed our @steemph fliers created by @bearone. We also used the same fliers in our past concerts and steemit promotional events.

@kuminga who was also in attendance at the UP Machine Design Summit, again helped distribute fliers while listening to the concert.

Left - Streetkids playing with the traditional drums of @flabbergast-art of Project Alinaga who also played at the concert. Right - women have their fun after the concert.

The Filipina - #PinayGeeks

While searching for statistics on Women in Tech and Engineering in the Philippines, I came across this tag #iLookLikeAnEngineer by Pinay Engineer, Isis Anchalee. As a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, I have heard many puns about what female engineers look like. I have joked in the last Machine Design Summit "Yes we are female engineers, we exist, we are not unicorns." In my mind, I was also saying, "and we don't look like men".

Women are more determined in going into the fields of IT and Engineering, because many others gone before them, and also probably because they wanted the nameplate or high paying jobs when they graduate. The numbers show that in 2010, 49.28% of the 721,000 STEM Professionals are women. While men dominated the fields of architecture and engineering, there were 60% and more women Mathematicians, Statisticians, Physicists and Chemists during the study. Women still dominate Health related fields and Nursing and Midwifery. What does this mean?

It means we are smart and caring at the same time, but that's just my opinion.

Are you female and work/study or plan to study IT and Engineering? Let us know in the comments below. Are you a female engineer? Comment below your photo with the hashtag #iLookLikeAnEngineer.

We'd love to hear from you!
