My dad died just this last Sept 13. My daughter was born exactly one month later Oct 13. I had not talked to my dad in about 4 years. He just didn't like me. It was sad for me being the only son his namesake same name as him. We only talked maybe 6 times in the last 25 years always ending badly and with him yelling at me, me running away not to be hurt by him ever again. I don't think I could have done any thing to change things unless I was just able to take the abuse and love it. I chose to be happy and keep my children from such an angry soul.
Sorry to hear about the abuse you've been through @iamstan. I am sure you are a great dad to your daughter. I am just lucky to have a loving dad, which made me very close to him. I have four children and I love them dearly and treat them with great respect and honor. My life is devoted to my children and my wife. Dont get me wrong I am saying that you should be very happy you had a good dad and thankful that you got to spend quality time with him while he was alive. I never had that. Even though both our dads are gone your still better off you will always have the good memories.
I agree to you my friend. His memories will be cherished in my/our hearts forever. He was my hero and my bestfriend :) Sad, but I know he wants me to go on with my life. I am happy knowing that you are happy with your kids and wife. Your kids are so blessed to also have a dad like you. Enjoy the time with them and keep the faith.
