Sense of Entitlement: Playing The Victim Card

in #steemph6 years ago (edited)

Good day Steemians!

For how many days, I've been hounded by too many related events involving some of my relatives and friends. Thus, the angst to write this is my way to vent out just a little bit.

I just don't know why some people love to play the victim card. It's as if they are so ruined when some of the privileges they once enjoyed will not be given at some point of their lives. Even their wants, when taken away would mean their worlds are going to end.

How can people be so entitled about everything?

I'll give you an example.
Ted used to live in a posh village where he can do whatever he wants in life. He owns a small business that give him good returns. However, he forgets to take care of his source of living. The business fall down and so his lavish lifestyle.
Now, Ted is living in a shanty with no usual comforts he used to enjoy. His neighbors are noisy as he's living near the market and people are just everywhere. However, the man is still insisting on the privileges he once had, even petitioning to stop the market operation for his convenience. The entitlement was so strong that he wanted the world to stop for him.
Now, he's become a victim in his own perspective. He's starting to feel thay the world is so unfair to him.

Is he really a victim or is he just not willing to adapt to his new environment? I bet, the answer is the latter.

In today's world, people are just so full of themselves that they sometimes forget the difference between a right and a privilege.

A right can only be called a right if there's a moral or legal basis for you to act in a certain way. For example, you have the right to live, the right to speak, the right to love and others. However, your right is not absolute. Your right stops where the right of others starts. There's a boundary. There's a limit to it. It's like stretching your arms as much as you want without invading someone else's comfortable place.

I grew up poor. I know how it feels to have nothing. I worked hard to get all the things I want. Even though I lack so many things in my life, I've never felt the world has abandoned me. I never blamed my parents for it. Now, I'm still no millionaire, but my life is much better. Because of my experiences, here are some of my reflections about life:

1. We don't own everything.

The world is not ours and we are all just passers-by. Even if you're the richest person in the world, you can't claim the entire earth. Let's not act without limits. Let's think about other people and consider the consequences of our actions.

2. We have rights, so as the others.

We must keep in mind that everyone has a right that must be respected. Again, your right ends where the right of the other begins.

3. The world owes you nothing.

The world or the people around you are not obliged to give you everything. There is such thing as working your way up. Work hard and deserve the things you want.

4. Own up your mistakes.

Your wrongdoings can never be blamed on others. Your mistakes are your own decisions and not by other people. Some person might influence you to do things but without your permission, nothing will happen.

Your are the master of your life and if you do have some lapses, try to make it right.

5. Help will come if you deserve it.

There are times when everyone seems so deaf to our pleadings. We might feel abandoned or angry at these people because they're not there for you. But, come on, our family, friends and relatives have their own lives too. They encounter problems on a daily basis, just like you. You can never expect them to be just around the moment you need them. Most of the time, our problems are just our own creation. We make our dilemmas and expect others to fix it? No.

6. Don't plant a banana if you're expecting to harvest an apple.

Banana and apple are two different fruits, obviously. I life, you can't expect good life sans the hard work. You can't expect good things from doing evil works. That's how it is... you reap what you sow.

****Of course, we aren't perfect. We commit mistakes. We will need other people's help. We have our rights to protect. However, we should always think that it's not our birthright to deserve everything in this world. Let's not be a victim. Let's be a victor of our own fate. Because again, we are not entitled to everything.****
