Steemph UAE Bleeds with APO. Our Initiatives Just Start from Here.

After a successful third SteemPh Meetup in Dubai last week, I am glad to share that we are going strong and are on the right track towards achieving our goals.

I mentioned during our last meet up and earlier on this post our goal to be seen not just as an online community, but a group of real people who care and are dedicated to help the others.

We aim to be more visible and recognized not just an online community, but a group of dedicated Pinoys.

Our Community Manager, @lifediaries2nd has invited us to co-sponsor this event along with the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Abu Dhabi Alumni Association. Unfortunately, as we have just had 2 back to back meetups, we are low on funds and are practically out of time.

But we should not stop just right there...

There are other ways we can support this campaign and here's where we need the support of the UAE steemit community. We can come and join as blood donors or as volunteers to assist during the bloodletting.

This initiative shall take place at the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank in Khalidiya, Abu Dhabi on June 7, 2018. APO chose to have it on a Thursday, which should be convenient for us since it is a weekend. Why not start the weekend with a noble cause, right? Since it is still Ramadan, the activity will start from 8:00pm to 1:00am.

Why should you donate blood?

I personally have not yet donated blood. It would be my first time, God willing. I am thrilled at the thought that through this simple gesture, I would be able to help save lives. Beneficiaries of this noble cause could be anyone in the UAE - casualties of accidents, fire, or those who have medical conditions like anemia, bleeding disorders, etc.

In addition, donating blood also has medical benefits to the donor as it can help reduce the risk of heart diseases and stroke. It can also stimulate the bone marrow to produce new blood cells. ¹

What should you expect at the venue?

• You will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire to assess whether you are eligible to donate blood. The will take your vital signs - blood pressure, temperature, weight and hemoglobin.

• They will take 1 unit of your blood (around 450ml) which would take around 10 to 15 minutes. You would afterward be asked to rest and take refreshments to regain lost energy.

Some reminders!

• Do not forget to bring your Emirates ID, passport or driver's license copy for identification.
• Drink plenty of water within the next 24 hours of donating blood, do not smoke or go to high places as you may get dizzy.
• Remember, it is Ramadan so be mindful and wear modest clothing.
